I would spend my bucks/time to clean up the tags, remove idv1 / ape and
so on.

Re: [slim] NAS SSD Drive...?

2015-04-02 Thread Michael Herger

Thanks for sharing this, I hadn't seen that thread. One should note that
is for FULL scans which, to me, seem hardly necessary to do regularly.
Do you expect similar improvement for regular (i.e., update) scans?

Yes, update scans did improve as well, at least when running the
external scanner (which in 7.9 is true most of the time).

Lastly, and most importantly, I don't fully understand why people care
about scan performance at all. Why don't people schedule full scans for
times you don't need to access the system?

Because if your system takes 14h for a full scan (as mentioned in that
other thread), then it's hard to find that time. And because I want to
run the scan NOW, and I want it do be done NOW, too :-).

In summary, I think spending time and money towards improving scan time
give you little bang for your buck.

Now comes the interesting question: where would you like to see the
bucks spent?

Gary this is evil - I believe it for a good 10 seconds. It was even more
credible knowing that, last week I was in one of these consumer

-finally- people that know what it is about :(

Yes, it's true. I'm guilty as charged. Of course that's what makes for a
good April Fools post vs. the Elvis sighted in Texarkana, Texas grocery
store. in the first line. And of course I do secretly hope that
Logitech will some day be making that announcement. I don't really need
the hardware but I like the idea of a continued life for Squeezeboxes
and mysqueezebox.com in the background.

This is the 2 box @tunes version of the Classic and has been in daily
use until the arrival of the SuperUniti a week or so ago.

I'm looking for £250 and will be putting it on Ebay after the weekend

Cheers

loud!)

Re: [slim] What is this SqueezeboxControllerApp?

Thanks!

I still use Squeeze Commander. In opinion, it's the best so far. I have
tested Orange Squeeze, doesn't work for me, I don't understand the
concept. I also tested some others (not Squeeze Ctrl.), but Squeeze
Commander just covers all the features I need.

More a wish list than an April fools day joke eh Gary? ;)

For me, now that I can make a pretty decent headless player with a
Raspberry Pi, I2S DAC and a pretty case - all for less than £100 ($150)
- I don't think I would ever spend more money than that on a streamer
again. If I were really into hi-fi and wanted the best possible sound I
might spend the money on an external DAC which is where the real audible
differences are made, rather than the streamer which simply decodes
network 1s and 0s and turns them into a form that a DAC can decode.

The real magic with the Squeezebox system lies in LMS, and the many
willing volunteers here that keep it running. Those of us addicted to
BBC radio are eternally indebted to the likes of BPA, Triode,
Expectingtofly, Bonze and others without whom we would be resorting to
bluetoothing from our iPhones to some crappy little speaker like some of
my trendy friends in the meeja (gruesome thought :( )

Very true. But for some, the additional ingredient is the
mysqueezebox.com in the background. Without this, things like Pandora
and SiriusXM won't work. ickStream is helping in some regard with some
services. For me, all I care about is SiriusXM, because my wife listens
to a lot of its Public Radio channels. For my own music and (for now)
Spotify, I can soldier on without mysb.com.
