I see that squeezelite has also been recently updated. But I still get
this running on OS X El Capitan:

2016-05-30 21:35:00.915 squeezelite[49331:5322559] 21:35:00.915 WARNING:
140: This application, or a library it uses, is using the deprecated
Carbon Component Manager for hosting Audio Units. Support for this will
be removed in a future release. Also, this makes the host incompatible
with version 3 audio units. Please transition to the API's in
AudioComponent.h.

Will this be difficult to rectify?

Thanks for your continued work on this!

Hey we have TEM services in our office, well just recently. The

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2016-05-30 Thread sedwards

Downloaded from Google Play.

Sync between Squeezeplayer and my Squeezeboxes and Squeezeboom was
great.

Played music to an external amplifier for 8 hours and only used about
10% of the battery.

How about a setting to disable the volume buttons and 'lock' the output
at line level?

How about a 'network test' mode to measure bandwidth and stability?

Thanks for your work, the app 'just works' great.

Having played with TTS (the non-AI other way around) I also doubt very
much that a voice interface works with music, esp. when it comes to
pronounciation.

But I believe it is possible to explain the hype. The web has killed the
PC, the apps are killing the web, what could kill the apps? When you
have a big database, enough CPU to do a bit of AI, and your name isn't
Apple, I guess it is tempting enough to buy for scrap an audio speaker
maker and try to swing a voice UI.
A networked speaker is something people can imagine and buy, so now you
have your beachhead. And since use for music control doesn't really work
(plus music is already monetized) while IoT is looming large, you
prepare to make the speaker a hub for the smart home.
Does a voice-controlled home make more sense than voice controlled
music? I don't think it can make less sense. But I think some marketers
have seen one too many Iron Man movie.
I'd be content with an app-controlled home (assuming I don't need a
working internet link to open the front door, etc.)

The player will prompt you to update which you can accept or not. Just
accept it and let it do it's thing.

Ok, got it. At first I thought the firmware update actually installed
the LMS. :) I thought that was strange. So it's essentially like the
Touch, except you just let the unit find the firmware on its own...which
you can also do on the Touch, but I never did.

Re: [slim] Updating the firmware on older Logitech units.

2016-05-30 Thread Michael Herger
TBH: I don't understand your questions. If you have LMS installed: fine.
Don't touch it. You want to add a new/used player? Install it in your
network, pick your server once it has discovered it. Update the firmware
if you're prompted. Don't care about the firmware if you're not prompted
to do anything.

And don't get fooled by the "but firmware xyz sounded better than the
latest" discussion.

Re: [slim] if you could voice-enable squeeze boxen...

2016-05-30 Thread Michael Herger

what would you want to be able to do? from squeezeboxen or any
networked audio system? beyond just replicating functionality that
already exists, is there something that's unique about a
voice-controlled system?

It adds some level of suspense to your music listening experience: does
it really understand what I want? Or will it play the great group
"Prints" again, instead of Prince? What about AC/DC's "Health Bells"?

Really, I don't get all the hype around voice controlled systems. In
particular not in a music listening environment: do you really want to
shut down the party just so your system does understand what you're
yelling at it? I doubt it...

And no, I didn't make up above examples. That's the results I got from
one such voice recognition system. Ok, I'm not a native English speaker.
But results don't get any better at all once you want to talk to it in
German. "Spiel mir Prinz". Nah...

When you bring the Transporter home (BTW make sure the previous owner
has removed the Transporter from his mysqueezebox.com profile before
parting with it!) it will see his last LMS server is missing. It will
show a menu and offer to connect to your LMS or to mysqueezebox.com.
Select your LMS server, then you can start fiddle with player
preferences in the LMS web interface.

If the previous owner is running 7.8 then unless he refused auto-update
the firmware is v 87.
If the Transporter is running firmware v 80 and you want to use that,
then *before* connecting to your LMS, make the long press on left-arrow,
disable firmware auto-update, and then only connect to your server.
You'll soon see if firmware 80 is happy with LMS 7.9

Have fun ;)

Ok, thanks! Two more questions...

1) Let's say the previous owner had LMS 7.8. Will the unit automatically
download 7.9? Or do I have to 'point' it in the right direction?

2) When the update begins, does the unit actually install LMS 7.9 on my
