Re: [slim] does anyone still use squeezelite anymore instead of chromecast audio and if so why?

2016-09-11 Thread cdmackay

There's a Squeeze–CC plugin isn't there? I see the thread, although I've
yet to try it.

Given that, I would rather use my CCs that way, with server software
with which I am familiar, rather than start again with e.g. Plex.

All depends on how good the Squeeze–CC hookup is.

[slim] does anyone still use squeezelite anymore instead of chromecast audio and if so why?

2016-09-11 Thread ashleyw

hey guys, for several years I was running RPI2s with hifiberry cards in
them for syncd multi room using squeezelite primarily with Triodes
Spotify plugin - the sync was never that great.
Fro the last 4 months I've been running 9 x Chromecast audio - they work
brilliantly and the integration into android is slick (along with the
setup) and audio quality is brilliant. The sync over wifi is 100%, and
it's trivial to group/re group audio zones etc, there are no audio drop
outs at all. I must say I haven't looked back at all and even my family
can operate the Chromecast audios so WAF is good (and CCs are cheap).

With things like Plex (for local music libraries) supporting audio cast,
what is the use case for the squeezebox ecosystem any more (just
checking before I sell all my RPIs in case I've missed something).

any thoughts?

Re: [slim] Spotify and Synchronization - testers needed

2016-09-11 Thread RSJ

I'm running LMS on Max2play on my Pi. This functions as a player and
server for my whole house audio system which consists of 3 Raspberry Pi
players using Max2play, 5 Logitech Receivers, 1 Logitech Boom and, 1
Logitech Radio. I'm using the Spotify family plugin with a family
account for Spotify and I have had no real issues with syncing all these
players together in various combinations. The only real complaint is
that I wish this Spotify plugin had a menu more similar to the official
Spotify plugin. But as far as synchronization I have had no real issues
it.

I agree, the server would convert it back to FLAC anyway. With some FLAC
files there are issues with the compression used but that would
typically rather mean playback breaks off.

Your LMS version is old, the first thing to do should be to try to
update it.

agree! the two way synching is the answer to get both drives consistent
with each other since neither is the "master".

Yes, that's exactly how I make backups, from a master copy of all my
music on my "L" drive, and only make changes to tags/files on this
drive.

I suggested two way synching only as a means of getting *all* music
files onto both drives.

I also use freefilesync to keep my backup drives synched.

regarding whether same file, different tags will be synched I use
the comparison option of "compare file size and time". See link:
http://www.freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=comparison-settings

If I've changed the tags in a file, it will change the file modification
date (I use mp3tag for tagging; it has an option to either change or not
change the file modification date and I allow it to change the
modification date because I do want my backups to pickup any new version
of a file even if all I did was edit the tags).

Do these solutions take into account that both drives have the same

I seriously doubt your suggestions work, as it was a FLAC file, even if
I convert to a WAV file it won't make a difference. It'll play and
advance to the next track, coz when I rewind the same track, it'll
advance to the next track.

No I don't use DSTM, don't even show up on my home.

It was probably a Squeezebox 3, yes should be 44/16, it says 831 VBR if
that helps.

I wanted to add that in LMS interface the playing showed "0:00" time
left for the song, but it doesn't advance to the next song. Whereas in
iPeng it played beyond the file's actual length and showed 4:30 when
it's supposed to finish at 4:00.

Appreciate feedback from this community. Than you.

beyond the track's length, eg, a FLAC of 4 mins were played till 4:30

[slim] Cross referencing 2 large music collections ?

2016-09-11 Thread swayzak

Hello

My main music collection died last night (on a WD USB hard drive - one
drop too many !).

I have a double back up of this (another USB HD & an external,
AC-powered HD), but this has been done manually over the years so am
uncertain as to how accurate the backups are.

Is there an easy way to cross reference these collections, to ensure the
maximum number of folders/files are restored to the new drive (hopefully
without any missing) ? e.g. to find which files (if any) are absent from
either drive that are present on the other...
