Re: [slim] T-Class amp recommendations
I'm running a few. I started with these '15w boards' (https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-12V-TA2024-2-X-15W-4-ohm-Class-D-Audio-Amplifier-Board-Stereo-Hifi-Mini-T-Amp/131825272505?epid=1266438718=item1eb16606b9:g:aQIAAOSwR5dXQ~tA) and was surprisingly impressed. Cheap bare boards, but sound quality is surprisingly good and unbeatable for the price. Now I've switched to a higher power '100w board like this style' (https://www.banggood.com/2x100W-TPA3116-D2-Dual-Channel-Digital-Audio-Amplifier-Board-12V-24V-For-Arduino-p-1019109.html?cur_warehouse=CN). They seem slightly warmer. They do feel slightly less refined than the 15w board, but the extra volume control allowed me to level the volumes across multiple rooms easier so worth the trade off. Still the quality is astonishingly good for the price and I think the extra powere of the 100w option would probably be a better fit with the speakers you are trying to drive. For what it's worth, I've added a £5 DAC and a £5 PiZero to each board to make stand alone units for each room of the house. It's astounding you can get this quality sound in a standalone player for under £25. s2kiwi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63950 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108310 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

So here's a question: the company that developed the T amp went under a decade ago. Where are all the "class T" chips coming from in 2017? Checking the web site of Cirrus Logic, which bought the intellectual property of Tripath, shows no sign of the chips being available new. s. satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108310 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Transporter heat
Mine is in a cabinet with a a bit of circulation (the front panel is wire mesh). If I touch the transporter, it is very mildly warm. Not even approaching what I would call even very warm much less hot. But it's not simply cold (like some equipment that is truly off). p.s. it's been in this same cabinet, running 24/7 for about 10 years. *Home:* VortexBox 4TB (2.4) > LMS 7.9.1 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.4) > LMS 7.9.1 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9.1 > Squeezelite *Spares:* Transporter, Touch(3), Radio(3), Boom, SB3, CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108316 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Transporter heat
Mine never gets hot. On the left side, it's barely warm in the winter and gets a little warm in the summer. I suppose if it's in a closed cabinet (particularly if there is no ventilation at all) it's going to heat up more. I have a PS3 that gets super hot (even when off) if I close my cabinet. So I have to leave the door open. In my settings, I use the "synchronize Mirror __>" setting on the upper right side. That is, I want the target drive (right side) to be an exact copy of the source drive (left side).I prefer this over two way sync. With two way sync, something odd that I did with the target drive would then end up polluting the source drive. See pic. Also, I've done over 1TB in one batch. Re: [slim] Transporter heat
Thanks for the answers That's seems logical to be a little hot then. It's because the transporter in my house is in a quite completely closed cabinet so I wouldn't want it to be inappropriately hot. Moreover, the case has no apertures on the side, as far as I saw. That's fine then, Thanks ! Re: [slim] Transporter heat
Ok so maybe it doesn't use a Linux kernel, but it runs some software on a CPU in the same way (except it's called firmware because you have to flash it to a ROM chip!). The Touch and Radio both use a Linux kernel, of that I'm sure. Principle is the same - they use a few Watts and this translates to heat while everything is ticking over. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Re: [slim] Transporter heat
The transporter is not Linux, it's a embedded system-on-a-chip, the [Ubicom IP3K](http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison). To answer the OP, yes, the Transporter is always "on", and uses a few watts. Mine is always a bit warm, but it's an un-vented case design, so that's somewhat expected. Re: [slim] Transporter heat
I don't think any of them really go "off" in standby, it's a computer running a Linux kernel, so power consumption will be essentially identical when off as when on. -Transcoded from Matt's brain by Tapatalk- -- Hardware: 3x Touch, 1x Radio, 2x Receivers, 1 HP Microserver NAS with Debian+LMS 7.9.0 Music: ~1300 CDs, as 450 GB of 16/44k FLACs. Hi all, I recently bought a "new" (never used) transporter on eBay and I'm a little bit surprised because it heats up a little bit in stand by mode.
