Re: [slim] OT - variables in CD ripping speed
I've been ripping CD's to flac for years and have noticed this effect throughout. In my case it usually, but not exclusively, occurs when I've ripped a few at full speed and then the PC drive suffers some physical effect which slows it down. Always recovers after a while and even when going slow it eventually finishes without errors. *Music Store and VPN Server: *Synology DS215J NAS *Study Server:* LMS 8.1.0 on Pi 4B pCp 7.0.0/IQ Audio DAC+ *Refurbished 1962 RCA Stereo Console Server/Player *LMS 8.1.0 on Pi 4B pCp 7.0.0/IQ Audio DAC+ *LAN Players: x2:* pCp 7.0.0 on Pi 3B / IQ Audio DAC+ *LAN Player/ADC* pCp 7.0.0 on Pi 3B / IQ audio Codec + *PC Players: x2: *Squeezelite on Windows 10 PC. *VPN Mobile & Car Player:* Material/SqueezePlayer on Android Phone ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114485 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] OT - variables in CD ripping speed
This is OT, aside from the fact I'm ripping to my music server for playing using my SB system. I've noted quite a range in the speed at which CDs get ripped, using dBpoweramp. Sometimes they're slow, like 4 or 5 times playback. Other times it will approach 15 or even 20. dBp settings don't change. It's not clear what the variables are. It's not dirt or scratches (sometimes that's a factor, but it's not a generic factor). Sometimes in low-budget contexts it can be CD burning technology, where it appears the burn is done in a CD-rewritable fashion. But often it's none of the above. For instance, just today I'm ripping CDs from Joni Mitchell's newly released Archives V. 1 box set; I'm getting very slow rip speeds, despite the fact it's a well-produced package selling in the gazillions. What are the variables here? Ron PS -- why am I ripping CDs when I could download the files in lossless format? Because I wanted the liner notes; Joni grew up in Saskatchewan, from whence I hail, and it was very interesting to me to read about places I know. Also because the package was given to me as a birthday present, so I didn't actually have to buy it. Re: [slim] Playlist "Macro" URL Commands - Maybe Kidsplay?

I think you probably need a URL like squeezeexec:secret=123456789012&p0=/usr/bin/eject or maybe just squeezeexec:secret=123456789012&p0=eject -- including the required "secret" argument as mentioned in 'this post' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?78259-Playlist-quot-Macro-quot-URL-Commands-Maybe-Kidsplay&p=543452&viewfull=1#post543452) and ideally setting "p0" to the full path of the eject command. I haven't used squeezexec: in a very long time, but I would expect you could use the LMS web "Tune in URL" to test the squeezeexec: URL. As OPML is XML, you'd encode a URL like "squeezeexec:secret=123456789012&p0=/usr/bin/eject" as "squeezeexec:secret=123456789012*&*p0=/usr/bin/eject". Another thing: historically Linux distributions have used a group like "cdrom" to limit who can use the CD/DVD drive. You might need to permanently add the Unix user that LMS runs as to that group so that it can eject the optical disk -- just running the eject command won't be enough if the LMS user lacks sufficient privileges. And the scanner bug I mentioned in 'this post' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?78259-Playlist-quot-Macro-quot-URL-Commands-Maybe-Kidsplay&p=544174&viewfull=1#post544174) might still cause problems.
