Re: [slim] Network control of AV Receiver
Yay ! I've proved to myself. a) The Squeezecontroller is capable of controlling the Denon Receiver b) I can write it ! I've hacked the Doomsday demo app to mute and un-mute the amplifier using http commands. So I can presumably expand from there to full one way functionality. Ideally I'd liked to switch from using HTTP to using plain TCP so I could use the telnet commands and receive back status information to theoretically display on the remote. I'll let you know how I proceed. -- Bruce Hartley Bruce Hartley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19779 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Network control of AV Receiver
The receiver will accept command either by Telnet or by HTTP through it's network port. I figured either: a) I get the SBC to send the commands to the receiver. Initially volume up down, and power on / off would be more than enough. b) I get the SBC to send commands to the Squeezecenter server that then sends the commands to the receiver. Guess the bonus of this would be that the server could send command based on power on events on the players? Have had a look at the template projects (and the media center controller app) for the SBC and I'm going to have a bash. But any thoughts would be appreciate. -- Bruce Hartley Bruce Hartley's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19779 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'm looking to do the same thing. My remote transmits RF and an RF receiver then transmits IR through IR emitters. Can the IR output of the receiver be connected to the headphone port on the squeezebox. if the headphone port can be made to transmit IR, surely it could be made to receive IR. Otherwise as noted above, I will have to put an IR blinker on the front of the squeezebox and it won't look pretty. It does everything for me. I thing setting up the IR blasting from the squeezebox would be a much more flexible option, then a few extra buttons on a learning remote. -- Bruce Hartley ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Problems with BBC Podcasts
I imagine it is encoded at an unusual frequency or bit rate. I guess the solution would be to someone transcode it through lame before it is sent to the Squeezebox? Thoughts? -- Bruce Hartley ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Double remote clicks with Pronto on setup screens
My SB2 arrived yesterday (yay !!). Everything seems great, I've even got it running wirelessly with breaking up which I never managed with the SB. One weird thing though, during the setup screens (network setup etc.), if I used my Marantz RC9200 touch screen remote, each command (right,up,down) would be executed twice. If I used the supplied remote this didn't happen. Once the unit was setup the touchscreen remote worked perfectly. Is anyone else aware of this problem? Any thoughts as to the cause? Rgds, Bruce. p.s. [slim] Re: Removing duplicate tracks
If this feature is going to go anywhere, I would like the duplicate avoiding links to be in the file system. That way if you are going to rebuild the database from scratch you wouldn't lose anything. I guess on a linux server, I could remove a duplicate file and replace it with a link (hard/symbolic can't remember) to another copy of the file. As said, the tag for track number etc. would be wrong, but the track number if the file name could be correct. In windows, the link could be a windows shortcut. Just a few random thoughts... -- Bruce Hartley ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I've now subscribed to the product newsletter, so I guess that will keep me up to date. Here's looking forward to a new squeezebox very soon. -- Bruce Hartley ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] UK Wireless Squeezebox2 availability?? (black) from multitask-computing
I order a wireless black squeezebox 2 on 11th March. Still no sign? Is availability really this bad? I'd happily take a wired one, if that's all that is available. No response to emails to multitask, but I guess they are overwhelmed by people like me hassling them. Softsqueeze desktop icon can't be removed?haved you tried rebooting. That might clear up the lock on the file Jason [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I have a weird problem with an icon for Softsqueeze that was installed when I loaded Softsqueeze 2.0a11. I have since installed the 6.0 final and Softsqueeze 2.0b2 and cannot delete the shortcut for Softsqueeze 2.0a11. The properties for the shortcut say this is not a valid shortcut and when I try to delete the shortcut I get a Windows XP error box saying Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk. Re: [slim] Drive letter of playlist
Or to change the drive letter in your playlists, just use find and replace in your favourite text editor. Programmers File Editor or Textpad for example. Ken Hokugo [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] If you are using XP, and it does that sometimes, go to control panel - ADministrative Tools - Computer Management. Choose Disk Management on the left. Bring the cursol to your music drive, right click, then Change Drive Letter and Paths. Basically everything except the display would be great ?? If you have one that fits the bill, hopefully we could do a deal for it along with a Squeezebox 2!! Stuart Cooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I have one that DHL kindly ran over with a forklift truck... some of it still bears a passing resemblance to a Squeezebox, although the display is not at all well. Re: [slim] MP3 quality on repeat copies
As long as you do a file copy onto the other device there will be no degredation. This would also apply to JPGs. You would only get degredation if you actually opened the JPG and saved it again, which could possibly created compression artefacts. Likewise if you re-encoded all your MP3s onto your backup drive, the quality would reduce, but there is no need to do it. Rgds, Bruce. assume shadow play works ok with softsqueeze. I might end up using squeezebox as an interface only and having the music generated by the PC. Rgds, Bruce.
