Re: [slim] SB3 bricked? (perpetual reboot)

2010-02-12 Thread Mike Schenk

As of today I have exactly the same problem with my SB 3 which is about
4 years old.

I have had it randomly rebooting mid-song for some time already (while
my other SB3 of the same age has no problem at all). But today it
rebooted again mid-song and now keeps on rebooting, showing the logo and
then rebooting again.

Pressing + on the remote will only make it reboot before showing the
logo completely.

Re: [slim] Curious about wireless route

2008-02-11 Thread Mike Schenk

It would be 3 hops, Server to AP, AP to Repeater, Repeater to player.
Depending upon whether the repeater is doing store and forward on the
same channel or using two channels will affect latency.

It could be 4 hops, Server to Repeater, Repeater to AP, AP to Repeater,
Repeater to Player. Which would happen if both server and player are
within best coverage of the repeater.

In general, a repeater in a wireless network is always a suboptimal
solution. It would be better to have two APs in that case, each
connected wired to the backbone. Or use a better antenna on the AP.

[slim] Squeezebox crashes when alarm is on

2008-01-02 Thread Mike Schenk

I have two Squeezeboxes, one in my living room and one in the bed room.
The one in the bed room I use as an alarm clock. Since I upgraded to
slimserver 6.5.4 a few months ago, the bedroom Squeezebox crashes
often, and it seems to be getting more often as well. At first I
thought it was a wifi problem, but coverage is excellent and nothing
happens to the wifi during a crash.

Then I thought maybe the playlist was too long because I kept it on
random album play all the time and let the alarm use the current
playlist. But changing didn't solve the problem either.

The Squeezebox in the living room never gives me any problem and the
only thing left I could think off is that I don't use that one as an
alarm clock. So I switched of all the alarms on the bedroom SB and no
crashes occurred for a few days. Switched an alarm back on and yes, the
crashing happened again.

Anyone ever has anything similar? I am considering getting back to an
earlier version.

The only additional plugins I have installed are Lazysearch2 and
Slimscrobbler and they should both be ok for this version of
Slimserver.
