[slim] Squeezebox 3 + active speakers... + subwoofer?
After enjoying my Boom recently with a recently purchased ebay bargain subwoofer (a Jamo Sub 200) I now have to retire the subwoofer as the Boom takes its rightful place in the bedroom. Rather than waste a nice bit of kit, I was wondering if it can be used with the Squeezebox 3? My current setup with the SB3 is quite simple - a couple of Adam A7 active speakers. Is there a way for the SB3 to also feed the Jamo Sub like the Boom can do so well? -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54973 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 + active speakers... + subwoofer?
Answering my own question here, but I guess I could use a Y splitter from the phono/RCA outs of the SB3? The sub has a crossover so I'm guessing that it would cut off everything above say 150Hz. As the sub has left and right inputs, would it make sense to use two Y splitters to feed the Adams and the sub on each channel, or would a single feed from one of the channels suffice - assuming that such low frequencies don't have any significant stereo separation? -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54973 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

So, would it be OK to split only one of the channels or is there any benefit to split both channels into the sub? -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54973 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

There is not exactly the same bass info in both channels it's stereo ! so using both L R should give you an combined mono signal for all bass for use in the sub. Older recordings is mostly mono in the sub bass (so i've heard), mastering decisions, for cutting it on vinyl. the sub does it have any rca out ! that would make it even better, but thats rare. I would experiment with XO frequency if you have no high pass filter for the Adam A7's you might want to filter where they naturally rolls of, so you don't overlap to much The sub doesn't have any RCA out, just RCA in for left right channels. The sub does have adjustments for crossover cutoff (40Hz to 150Hz), and for phase adjustments (0 to 180 degrees). The Adams have tweeter adjustments of +/- 4dB, as well as shelving filters of +/- 6dB. In theory the Adams can cover a 46Hz to 35kHz frequency range, but I think those specs are ambitious. They certainly sound very nice, but I think a subtle use of the subwoofer would help for my style of music. I guess my initial query was whether the SB3 can do the clever things that the Boom is capable of - i.e. splitting the low frequencies out via the headphone output, but I suspect that it doesn't have the DSP capability built in. No matter - I see that the y splitter option should give me what I'm after once I've trimmed the various speakers. I'll go with the two channel input to the sub for now and experiment :). -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54973 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SqueezeNMT GUI for the NMT(Popcorn hour) released
As someone who's just this week picked up an NMT (the iStar HD) will this work on that device? My understanding is the firmware is pretty much the same across all NMT's so I'll certainly give it a go. -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=5 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Seems to be due to a bug in Chrome which is already fixed: I just downloaded Iron (a browser based on Chrome, without the Google data sniffing stuff) which uses a slightly newer version of Chrome's rendering engine. http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php This does work just fine with SC and password protection. Either the newer rendering engine or the removed sniffing features fixed Chrome ;-). I'd assume a later Chrome version will be fine. Michael Ah - hadn't heard of 'Iron'. Looks to be a good compromise in order to get the performance as well as the privacy. I'll check this out, thanks. -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51913 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Squeezebox Controller and Radio (AlienBBC)
For those who have the Controller and use AlienBBC, how easy is it to select from the listen again list? I ask this as I'm thinking of getting a controller mainly for my wife, and if I can show her that she can select individual episodes of the Archers while lolling around in bed then I have a sale :). I'm just not sure what the display looks like and how simple it is to operate for this plugin. -- Paul Shields Paul Shields's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8422 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53112 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
