Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?

2013-02-28 Thread andyg

TuneIn is independent of MySB for the most part. TuneIn actually
receives a fee per player sold, I am not sure if they receive an ongoing
payment beyond this. So in effect you have already paid for TuneIn. I am
not sure if it could be left enabled in LMS, but their feed is a simple
public OPML feed...

Re: [slim] Community Funded Squeezebox Replacement - Would you be interested?

2013-02-27 Thread andyg

Hi everyone. Unsurprisingly, the other shoe began to drop today with
Logitech laying off a handful of folks within the team, including
myself. I haven't read through very much of this thread but I wanted to
say that I am very pleased to see this effort in finding a way forward
in the post-Logitech world, and I had no doubt this great community
would already be on top of things here. :)

A couple of changes I was thinking of implementing involve removing
MySqueezebox.com support from the ip3k firmware, SqueezePlay, and LMS. I
do not know what Logitech plans to do with MySB but it is just a matter
of time before either they stop funding it, or it breaks with no one to
fix it. Sadly most music services will have to be removed, but Triode's
Spotify plugin shows it might be possible for the community to
reimplement some of them, if they have public documentation.

As for Smart Radio, personally I'd like to see those devices allowed to
become SB Radios if Logitech decides to stop supporting the
uesmartradio.com backend. Unfortunately Logitech controls distribution
of the SR firmware so this will require cooperation from them. I would
recommend not investing any time into supporting Smart Radio.

If you have bridging enabled you will need to disable it to use
Rhapsody. Rhapsody is very tight on memory due to a recent security
increase, and bridging is now too much to run at the same time.
Otherwise you should be fine in wireless mode.

Re: [slim] Good Squeezebox alternative?

2012-03-29 Thread andyg

There is nothing preventing gapless from working on DLNA renderers, it's
just a matter of proper playback design, but most of these are very dumb
devices and not likely to care about gapless.

Sync is not something that is supported by DLNA at all. I suppose
someone could design a protocol extension but you'd have to use
products by only that vendor, etc.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2012-03-19 Thread andyg

Generally SqueezePad looks OK on iPad 3, except for some reason the
fonts are not scaled which I thought iOS did automatically.

I've noticed a problem with our own app that will probably affect
everyone, and that is that the ultra-high-res cover art really abuses
the server and can cause large amounts of memory to be used upscaling
artwork to sizes around 1500px or higher. We will need to make some
changes to avoid any upscaling and have this scaling done client-side.

MP3 should be gapless if properly encoded with LAME from a gapless

IANAL but from what I understand it's probably possible in a closed

Also there is certainly a huge per-unit Apple licensing fee meaning it
would be unlikely we could add it to existing players for example, even
with no technical limitations. BTW this is just my opinion... it is
probably more likely we could see a 3rd party solution though.

I tried to follow the DLNA spec, which says the server provides 1 or
more available formats and the player can choose which one to play,
however it wants to select it. So the native format is always offered
first, then if the native format is not MP3/PCM already it will list
MP3 if LAME is installed, and finally PCM. So a given track may have up
to 3 different choices for the player to choose from.

It should be obvious that error is from our server. What it really means
is that you don't have permission to view non-public source code.

Why does Squeezebox Server read ID3 tags in Flac files?

I originally left ID3 support out when FLAC moved to Audio::Scan, but
there were a lot of angry people who I believe use ID3 mostly for FLAC
artwork. These files were tagged before FLAC supported artwork
natively.

You have ID3 tags in your FLAC files, most editors won't let you modify
those, but I think they will let you remove them.

Re: [slim] Buffer Fullness in Now Playing display

2011-08-11 Thread andyg

I thought I wrote a wiki page on this, I can't find it though.

SB has 2 buffers: a 3MB decoder buffer that contains the raw data from
the network (e.g. MP3 data), and a PCM buffer that holds 10 seconds of
decoded PCM audio which is then sent to the DAC. The first number is
how much data is in the decoder buffer, waiting to be decoded into PCM.
The second number is how much has been decoded and is waiting to be sent
out the DAC.

If you add up the 2 numbers, that's how long you could expect to hear
audio if you were to lose your network connection.

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53800

Question: Should IPv6 be supported?

- Yes
- No
- I Don't Really Care
- What Is IPv6 Anyway?

We will, at some point this year, update SBS and SqueezePlay devices to
support IPv6, as well as MySB.com, but for older ip3k (pre-Radio)
players, they will only have IPv4 support. I expect that it will be
common for home routers to do IPv4-over-IPv6 for LAN devices that don't
support v6.

And given that it's been 6+ months since 7.5.1 (7.5.2 doesn't count)

can't think what else it might be other than:

* bad build somehow

Re: [slim] Elton John concert steaming in FLAC !!!!

2010-11-29 Thread andyg

No, as the files are in OggFLAC format which we don't support. This is
not streaming either, just plain old file downloads. You can
certainly download them and then convert them to normal FLAC though.

Re: [slim] Album art from iTunes to Squeezebox

2010-11-09 Thread andyg

There's an option you can enable that tries to pull art from iTunes'
proprietary database into SBS. It's very slow and sometimes doesn't
work. It's in Settings - iTunes in the web UI.

Re: [slim] Rhapsody no longer compatible with my Touch???

2010-11-08 Thread andyg

The problem was caused by Rhapsody changing the DNS address of their API
server. There is some code to handle this case for older ip3k-based
players, but it's not necessary for SP players. Unfortunately that
code got ported from ip3k and was broken. So if by chance you were
still on a server (SBS or MySB) that hadn't restarted since the DNS
change, you would have still been able to connect to Rhapsody.

Re: [slim] 24bit 96 khz flac support?

2010-11-03 Thread andyg

Note that Radio is also only 24/48. Transporter and Touch are the only
devices that support up to 24/96.

Please note that the menu structure and listings under the Radionomy
menu are created and managed by Radionomy, so direct any requests
and/or complaints their way. :)
