Re: [slim] SB3 IR Remote Control problem
Problem solved and SB3 fixed :) It was indeed my power supply. How odd that everything worked fine apart from the erratic remote problem for a couple of weeks. Then nothing (except for a faint slowly flickering digital audio light). The supplier of my 1st replacement power supply sent a new one as the culprit had failed during its 10 year guarantee. Well done DigiDave! Now, back to the music... ...and suddenly last night my SB3 died :( However, I saw 'THIS' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?99455-Squeezebox-Classic-won-t-power-on) thread and looked at the back of my SB3 to see a faint slowly-flashing red light as did the OP in that thread. That, and the non-responsive remote, makes me think that it could be PSU related. What are the chances? I'm already on my second PSU... fingers crossed that this is the problem again (what is it with SB3 PSUs? I don't have as many problems with PSUs for anything else). [slim] SB3 IR Remote Control problem
Hi all, My SB3 has been working great until the other day when it was totally unresponsive to the remote control unless I pointed the remote almost directly at the SB3 (and this would only work if I was pretty much directly in front of the SB3). I blamed the server and switched to mysqueezebox.com - same problem. I have rebooted the SB3 and the server to no avail. At one point it seemed to repeat the last key pressed several times and kept scrolling up the menu items (and then rebooted). If I stand in front of the SB3 it works fine but if I point the remote slightly away, or I'm not in front of the SB3 it won't respond. Music still plays ok. I have tried turning off low energy lighting (which has been in place for about 3 years anyway without effect) but there's no change. Any ideas? Re: [slim] SB3 Broken. Replacement adaptor advice needed
Well, I bit the bullet and bought the adaptor (from Digidave via Amazon). Amazingly the price had dropped to £8.82 incl PP (although now seems to have gone up to £14.83 incl PP). I plugged it in this evening and my SB3 came back to life for the first time in over 2 months. How delightful to have my music back as well as access to iplayer on my tv (my tv is hooked up to the network cable output). The lead is a fraction shorter than the original so I've had to do a bit of juggling with various plugs and sockets but all works well and I can recommend the seller - I've never had so many updates from a seller before! [slim] SB3 Broken. Replacement adaptor advice needed
Hi all, After almost 5 years, my SB3 is dead. However, I am suspecting that the power adaptor is the culprit (but cannot be sure). I guess the only way to tell is to buy a new adaptor. Does anybody in the UK have any experience of these adaptors: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Squeezebox-player-replacement-adaptor/dp/B002J9DHMS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronicsie=UTF8qid=1316858207sr=1-1 If so (assuming that they work) how do they compare with lead length? Any shorter and I'll have problems. Keeping my fingers crossed that the adaptor is to blame - I'm missing my music (and my BBC iplayer as I use squeezebox to connect my tv to the internet). [slim] Upgrade Woes
Oh my gosh... My Squeezebox has been running perfectly for ages. It was set to start as a Windows XP service and always started when I booted the computer or came back from Hibernate. Even WoL worked perfectly (and I could even hibernate using the Server Power Control plugin). I've put off upgrading since (I think) 7.0 as I know that I've had a few problems in the past and everything was ok. Then, last night, I tried to use Alien BBC and realised that I needed an update. Of course, this also meant updating Squeezecenter. I took the plunge, knowing that I'd need updated plugins. After learning a few new features, I appeared to have Squeezecenter 7.3.2 up-and-running with all of the plugins I needed (including the pop3 email reader which I had to reconfigure manually). I was quite chuffed. I put the PC into Hibernate mode and went to bed. This morning, I took the PC out of Hibernate mode but my Squeezebox didn't reconnect. I reconfigured SC to start 'when I log on' and back to being a service. The same happened when I went into and out of Hibernation again. Then I discovered that Server Power Control just leaves the computer on and does something odd to SC so that 'Extras' is displayed on my SB3. I have since, uninstalled and reinstalled SC, I have rebooted the PC many times. Quite often the service won't start (and the logs tell me that There is already another copy of the SqueezeCenter running on this machine - it doesn't show up in Task Manager (under any user). I'm at wits end now and, as usual, I'm regretting the upgrade. It always causes problems! Is there something that stops the current version of SC coming back to life after hibernation? Why the warning about multiple instances of SC running? Any guidance would be gratefully received. I upgraded from 7.0.1 earlier today having also downloaded the latest weatherdatetime screensaver (as I knew that the old version was incompatible). However, many of my other regularly-used plugins were incompatible so I've downgraded again - for the first time ever. Re: [slim] How fast should slimserver be?
I'm having this slowness problem as well but mainly when browsing albums (especially when album art is enabled). It takes about 4 or 5 seconds for the page to appear (when album art is enabled) and another couple of seconds for the images to draw. In other respects my PC seems pretty fast and I've had no problems. It's a P4 2.6Ghz with 1meg of RAM. Last night I was creating a playlist from several albums via the web interface which took an age and something must have corrupted as I lost all my album art (replaced by question marks) and I ended up having to do a full rescan. Re: [slim] Firmware 76 - no Wake on LAN
OK, the latest is that I appear to have got it working. I installed 6.5.0 on my laptop (there was no way I was messing with my beautifully tweaked and setup 6.5.2 on my main PC) and directed my SB3 towards that. It connected fine, downgraded to FW64 and rebooted. However - it lost all its wireless settings on reboot (a shock to me) so I had to input everything again - which would have been easy if I could remember my wireless password). So, I inserted a new password into my Access Point (plus all my other wireless equipment) and the SB3 duly connected to SS v6.5.0 on the laptop. When I then stopped slimserver, the 'waking slimserver' message was back (and not just on a reboot like before). I then pointed my SB3 back towards my main PC with 6.5.2 on it and after updating to FW80 (which I've been running for a few days now) it connected easily. Guess what... 'Waking Slimserver' seems to have been restored! :) So, what could have caused this? Could it have been my upgrade from 6.5.1 to a very particular version of 6.5.2 (with the added bonus of FW76) which only a few of us seem to have done? I can't get my head around how taking a particular upgrade path can influence this seeing as others on FW76/80 have not had the problem and that SS is not run on the squeezebox but on a remote computer. Anyway, I appear to have it working. I'd recommend the technique to others and thanks to those who suggested it! Daz PS The only thing that nearly caught me out in all of this was the fact that 'l' and 'I' look identical on the squeezebox when inputting wireless passwords just as they do in the arial font in which I'd printed it out as a reminder!!! -- dazbarber dazbarber's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33867 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Firmware 76 - no Wake on LAN
OK... I'm confused now. Somebody has added a comment to Bugzilla stating that it works for them. I had a play and it still wouldn't work for me. After starting my server manually, checking that my SB3 was still connecting ok and then stopping the server again I held the brightness button down. Eventually my SB3 complained with the following: update_begin:bad state I guess this is because there was no internet connection via a server as far as it was aware. When it rebooted, the 'waking slimserver' message was back! :) I then logged onto SN and updated the firmware again. This went ok but 'waking slimserver' wouldn't appear once again. Going through the same routine as above brought the 'waking...' message back again. Should I add this as a comment to bugzilla or should I mark it as invalid? What's going on??? Hm - it's broken again. Although it works after the 'update_begin:bad state' message (which is followed by a reboot) [and I can confirm that at this point is DOES start up my PC correctly] - once the PC is powered down again I cannot recreate the 'waking slimserver' message with any key combination unless I bring up the 'update_begin:bad state' message (followed by an auto reboot) once again. rtitmuss;191404 Wrote: The WOL will only work if you have been connected to your slimserver, not SqueezeNetwork. [slim] Firmware 76 - no Wake on LAN
A few people have mentioned in the Beta forum that wake-on-lan doesn't seem to work with Firmware 76. As the current version of Squeezenetwork uses FW76 I guess it can't really be classed as beta. [slim] Placing on a hot amplifier
Hi, My shiny new squeezebox is up and running without a single hitch but I have a concern... I currently have it sitting on top of my amp/receiver which has some air vents on top. The main SB£ unit sits in front of these grills but the back 'bar' is on top of a grill which is very hot to the touch. I don't think there are any concerns over blocking airflow from the amp/receiver as there are plenty more vents all round (and not much is covered) but will the Squeezebox have any problems? Will the black covering of the bar deteriorate? The supplied RCA phono plugs are above the hot bit - are they in danger? I would put the SB3 on top of the entire HiFi unit but the power lead is a bit too short for it to be safe. Any ideas?
