[slim] WHS and AlienBBC

2008-08-13 Thread gingerneil

I have just installed WHS on a spare machine, and have successfully
installed SC 7.1. All works fine.
However... I cant seem to get AlienBBC up and running. I've installed
using the .exe, but then get nothing to indicate its installed.
Nothing has appeared on the SB2 interface, nothing has appeared on the
web interface. Any ideas what's gone wrong ?
mplayer seems to be working fine using the test that runs at AlienBBC
install.

Any tips on how to get this working ?

Thanks. Removed and re-installed making totally sure i have all the
right files. Now working!

Incidently, installed WHS within VMWare to take a look before I buy a
server to host it. Looks excellent so far (and VMWare is running smooth
as anything too...)

[slim] which debug setting ?

2007-10-24 Thread gingerneil

I use my SB2 to listen to TalkSport radio during the night
(www.talksport.net). Recently, the stream has begun stopping at around
2 in the morning. Which debug option should I check on the web
interface to get the best idea of why this is happening ?

(Its a wma stream, but I have had to uncheck wma built-in support in
the file types config in order to get the stream to transcode and play
on the SB2.)

[slim] starting and stopping services using SB ?

2007-02-03 Thread gingerneil

All,
I use my server PC for running slimserver and GBPVR. The latter is a
little flakey at times, and I sometimes have to stop and start the
gbpvr recording service on the host pc. Doing this means VNCing into
the server from another PC.
Is it possible (ie easy for a complete beginner!) to add a menu item to
the SB interface that will allow me to restart this service via the
remote ?

[slim] duplicate playlists with 6.5_v2006-08-30

2006-08-31 Thread gingerneil

Been a while since I upgraded, so just went from 6.3.1 to
6.5_v2006-08-30.
All is working OK, but I am now getting 2x every playlist showing on
the SB2 when I use browse/playlists.
Only one shows up in the web interface, but two on the actual SB2. My
collection is split by \artist name-album name\ with an m3u
playlist in each directory.
Any ideas why I am getting 2x playlists on the SB2 and not in the web

[slim] streaming wma codec not working

2006-08-31 Thread gingerneil

I use my SB2 to stream talksport at night (www.talksport.net). The URL
of the stream is mms://194.46.192.142/talkSPORT
and it comes up in WMP9 as Windows Media Audio 9
20 kbps, 22 kHz, mono 1-pass CBR.

I can only get this to play in the SB2 by turning off native hardware
decoding of WMA streams. As a result, the server trancodes it on the
fly and it plays without a problem.

I dont mind this, but it begs the question why?. Anyone have any idea
why the SB2 hardware cannot manage this stream ? I initially thought it
must be a WMA Voice Codec, but I am running 6.5_v2006-08-30 which is
meant to have support for this codec...

[slim] Feature Request - copy settings

2005-11-06 Thread gingerneil

I have just bought a new SB2 and am in the middle of setting it up. I
have spent ages over the weeks/months tweaking my 'old' SB2 to give the

it very frustrating getting the new one set up 'right'.

Is there any way I can copy settings from one player to another ?? Or
is this a new feature request ??

There could also be another link on the SB web homepage to give Player
Settings - All. Any changes would be reflected across all players and
not just one at a time.

Any thoughts ??

[slim] OT - General networking Question

2005-10-29 Thread gingerneil

Hi all,
Lots and lots of knowledge here, so I'm hoping someone can help with a
question.
I currently have a Netgear DG834G ADSL wireless hub (or maybe its a
switch, I'm not sure!). When we move house, I'm planning on installing
cat5 and a patch panel. Due to layout, I wont be able to have the
netgear close to the patch panel - so I'll need another switch next to
the patch panel. How, therefore, do I wire the netgear and a new switch
(ie www.ebuyer.co.uk Quickfind code: 63776) into the network so that I
can use the netgear to access the internet from the PCs/SBs ??

I'm thinking:
PC switch(via patch panel)
then
switch - netgear.
Do I then just set the gateway/dns etc of the PCs to the LAN side
address of the netgear like I do now, or does the inclusion of the
switch complicate things ?? Also, can I use any port on the switch to
connect up to the netgear on any of its ports ??

Any help much appreciated.

Lovely - thanks for the details reply.
Done some digging around the DT834G netgear wireless switch - all LAN

I have spotted the odd gigabyte netgear switch on ebay - prob go for
that. I may well have only one cable going between floors; having 2
gigbyte switches on either end will overcome the all-done-one-cable
problem.

Good work - looks nice.
A 'seperates' looking version would be good too to integrate into
people's main hi-fi stack, but we cant have everything !
Now how long until the early adopters put their 'old' SB2s onto
ebay for me to snap up ?! :)

[slim] reboxing the SB2

2005-10-25 Thread gingerneil

I am interested in re-housing my SB2 into an old DVD player casing
(Toshiba if that matters!).
Where do I start ?! Do people totally re-house the hardware, ie
removing the PCBs and re-mounting; or just whack the full 'old' box
into the new one and secure it in place, extending the outputs to the
appropriate places in the rear of the old box ?

Is it possible to buy empty hi-fi boxes incase the wife dis-approves of
me killing the DVD player ?

Rebooted the router and it reconnected no problem. Lets just hope its
not a false dawn like last time

Thanks for the reply. But sorry - no luck. Bridging it turned off, and
no blocking on the router.

[slim] Cant connect using wired network

2005-10-21 Thread gingerneil

Hi all,

I am using the latest beta release of 6.2 with a SB2, Windows XP SP2
(firewalls turned off). I can connect and play music no problems when
using a wireless connection to the network for the SB2.

BUT When using a wired connection, I can connect to the network OK
(DHCP IP address assigned, shows up as connected in Netgear wireless
router admin screens). However, I cannot connect to the slimserver (no
settings changed on server PC). I know the SB2 is on the network OK as
I can connect to Squeezenetwork fine when its wired in.

Another strange bit of behaviour When I switch from wireless to a
wired connection, the web interface of the slimserver still thinks that
the SB2 is connected. I can use the various play/pause buttons, cue up
music etc etc without error. However, nothing happens on the SB2 until
I go back to wireless and connect, then all the commands are executed
!

Any thoughts ?? Same thing has happened with every version of
slimserver that I have used - release versions nightly builds.

I am happy with wireless for the time being, but will want to go wired
when I move house and rig a network
