Forget genre - that turned out not to be the issue, but the folder location of the files is. I doubt I'm in a 1% minority. True enough, most of my real albums are stored in the same directory (except when I have downloaded one or two tracks then later downloaded the rest of the album on the strength of those), but I also like to collect tracks together and tag it with the same Album name so that it will appear as an album eg. Mozart is the artist, Concertos is the album - and these are rarely if ever in the same folder (and I don't want to have to move them - iTunes wouldn't find them). -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42341 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Whole-heartedly disagree. I'm a developer myself, and our happiness is not the issue, a product must be flexible enough to satisfy the majority of customers. Making some rule rigid so that it only satisfies half the customers, even if it makes things simpler, is not good practice. And the rule of thumb on introducing a new option - make what it did before the default. So that's why I have a version mismatch. I'll try the bypass tho - thanks. -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37793 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] UNC paths and NOT drive mappings ?
Am I right in saying that when your songs are on a network drive and not on the same PC, SlimServer can ONLY deal with UNC paths (//qnap/Public/music) and NOT drive mappings (H:/music). Certainly it wont accept the H:/ form for the Music Folder in Server Settings (reports Oops - H:/music doesn't seem to be a valid directory. Try again.), and it doesn't seem to recognise the songs of this form when reading an iTunes library. Problem is I want to use the iTunes library as the source for the SlimServer database, and that doesn't seem to like UNC paths (does work but very slow to add new songs). -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33228 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] UNC paths and NOT drive mappings ?
I did try both forms, / and \, but I could not get it to recognise drive mapping paths. BUT it does now! Does it depend on the setting Automatically run at login?, since I turned this on and now drive mappings seem to be accepted. Would make sense, since it's the user login that sets up the drive mappings, not the machine startup. -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33228 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Sluggish Response
Where's the health page? Anyway, I tried it and slimserver running on the PC is definitely more responsive than running on the NAS. This is no real problem for me since I want to control my music FROM a pc (via CLI hooked into my own program eventually) rather than from the remote with no pc on. -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Sluggish Response
I'm running SlimServer 6.5.1 on a QNAP TS-101 NAS drive. There's only a small music library at present, but still performance is sluggish - it streams music OK it's just slow to respond to instructions (from the remote, the web interface and via CLI commands). Could I expect more responsiveness if I run SlimServer on the PC where I'm running the web interface from (and issuing CLI commands from)? The actual music files will still be on the NAS drive of course (I have no room for them on my PC!). Or will this in fact be worse? I can try it of course, I just thought someone might save me some time. -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Sluggish Response
Thanks. I'll give it a go, I was just concerned it would be the same or worse, since the whole music file has to make it's way from the NAS drive to the PC wirelessly at some point anyway. I just didn't know where the bottle-neck was. But as I said it was streaming the music OK. -- jezbo jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32962 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
