[slim] iPhone as Remote Controller?

2008-09-26 Thread pricebrad

I wonder if anyone is working on a software implementation of the
Squeeze Controller?

The iPhone (and iPod Touch) has such an amazing display... Apple
provides Remote software to control iTunes (and AppleTV?). However
I like my Squeezebox. I am considering ordering the Controller, but it
costs more than an iPod Touch, and I think the interface would still be
limited.

What I envision is a software implementation of Controller, that could
be sold through the iTunes App Store. I'm no programmer, however.

Thoughts? Comments?

Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet

2008-03-01 Thread pricebrad

Hi guys,
The new products look great. I'm not a bleeding-edge guy so I'll wait
a bit to order my Duet.

Reading through this REALLY LONG THREAD, however, something came to
mind. Are you guys signed up as Apple developers and are you looking
at the iPhone SDK? Seems to me that you should see what kind of
controller interface you could write for the iPhone.
A) there are already millions of iPhones out there.
B) the iPhone already has wireless built in, is portable, and has a
GREAT screen (better than the SBC, certainly).
C) if I'm going to spend $299 on something, I'd much rather buy an
iPhone.

I'm just not sure the SBC idea, while a good one, will be appealing to
a whole lot of folks at that price point. If you could ALSO make an
iPhone/iPod Touch interface for controlling SqueezeCenter, that would
open up a lot more potential sales of SqueezeBox3 and
SqueezeBoxReceivers. Let's face it, Apple's AppleTV is ok for video,
but there are many of us who don't want to turn on the TV just to
listen to music (and see album covers, etc).

[slim] feature request for performance, scheduling

2007-08-20 Thread pricebrad

I am running SlimServer 6.5.3 on a Mac mini. Yes, it's not the fastest
computer in the world but I have 1GB of RAM, etc etc. SlimServer does a
fine enough job, but often when I need to get some work done, It's slow
as molasses. At such times I see the CPU gauge is maxed and when I
look in Activity Monitor, it shows perl taking up 85% of the CPU.
SlimServer must be indexing or scanning or something. I understand
that there are preference settings where I can choose what priority I
want the process to run, but those don't seem to help.

What I'd like is a preference setting where I could tell SlimServer to
ONLY index between 3am and 6am or something like that. I don't change
my iTunes library that often, daily scan would be enough.
