Re: [slim] Spotify to offer Lossless Streaming

2021-02-22 Thread raglencross

Great news! I hope it will be available in Canada and for only a few
dollars more for lossless streaming like Amazon Music HD. I have tried
Tidal (too expensive) and AM HD (reasonably priced), but have always
reverted back to Spotify because it is best at personalizing playlist.

Great update to "Documenter"! I like the ability to customize the

to see, if possible, is the option to display/not display the online
library items (Spotify, in my case) when LMS 8.0.0 is used.

Re: [slim] UPNP media server plugin

2020-01-29 Thread raglencross

I have tried running this LMS plugin on a PI4 with Raspian. My
UPnP/DLNA devices initially pick up the LMS server, but quickly lose
connection requiring the server to be frequently restarted. Andy, the
plugin's author, has not been around since the Logiteck takeover, so it
would be my guess that the plugin has become unstable with the many
updates to LMS since his departure. I have opted to using Plex on the
PI4 to reliably UPnP/DLNA stream.

Re: [slim] Location Services

2018-07-28 Thread raglencross

Unfortunately, using a VPN does not guarantee being unblocked. Some
services monitor for VPN assigned addresses and block them when
detected. Netflix is one of the most aggressive in doing this and in my
experience Pandora does the same. Some VPN providers try to stay ahead
of the game by acquiring new IP addresses, but eventually the streaming
services catch them out. I personally use both a VPN and DNS provider
and find the latter to be more reliable when accessing US streaming
services. Regardless, you should contact your VPN provider about the
problem because they generally rely on their customers to tell them what
sites are blocked before they take corrective action.

Re: [slim] Announcement - ickStream open beta release on Squeezebox !

2014-11-15 Thread raglencross

I am experiencing heavy buffering playing tracks from TIDAL (FLAC), but
not from the other services (MP3) I have tried under ickStream. I am
using LMS 7.8.1 running under WHS 2011 with a SB3 as a player. The
buffering occurs both on wifi and wired connections. Oddly, it is worse
when ethernet is used. I have set the network radio station buffer to
the full 30 seconds with no noticeable improvement. My ISP download
speed is in the order of 50Mbps and I have no problem with the FLAC
stream from TIDAL on several PC's and an iPad. Thoughts and suggestions
would be appreciated.

2011-03-04 Thread raglencross

Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't have any custom channels yet, so
my only experience is with the mediafly ones such as Science and
Technology. As I only have a SB3, I can't verify that streaming works
properly on other SB devices. As I said in my OP, I am currently using
the latest version of SBS (7.5.3), but the Play channel function has
not worked for me with many previous versions of the F/W. Also note
from my previous post that this is the case using MySB and various
operating systems on 3 different computers. It would be helpful to
know if anyone else can play a channel with a SB3 without it stopping
after the 1st item in the playlist.

Re: [slim] How to disable SB3 Optical O/P when off?

2008-05-16 Thread raglencross

I guess in this case audio does mean only audio and useful in your
application, although I would have thought that turning off the SB
would normally result in no audio coming from the analogue port. Can't
see why you need a setting for this. In the case of the optical port
you are modulating the audio on a light carrier and need the option to
turn off the carrier and/or the audio, depending on your application.
Anyway, it seems from the bug comments that the intricacies of the
problem are well understood and we can look forward to a proper
solution in SC7.1.

Re: [slim] Quite upset - Rhapsody!

2008-04-07 Thread raglencross

It appears that at least one of the service providers in question takes
into account that the particulars of your account are US based even
though you may be accessing the service from a non-US IP, such as when
travelling abroad. If SN is to get involved in filtering then account
information (i.e. having a username and password) should override
access IP.
Anyway, why add this level of complexity? Just state in big bold
letters on the website and SB's that the services are US Only. I
think it probable that the initiator of this thread missed the existing
small print and is now justifiably aggrieved in a way that could not
be claimed if the restriction was conspicuously posted.

Re: [slim] Rhapsody + Squeezebox = Endless Frustration

2008-01-20 Thread raglencross

I used to have a lot of problems with Rhapsody and other services before
I changed ISP's. After that the SB3 performed flawlessly. Recently, I
switched ISP's again for one offering more bandwidth at a cheaper
price. All my old problems came back and after a few days I switched
back to the previous ISP. The long and the short of it is that
streaming in real time over the internet is at the mercy of many
variables, such as latency and jitter, and this I am afraid varies
greatly between individual servers and clients because of the
intervening network.
