looks great if I ever get into raspberry pi based players, but not for
now. ATM I`m only interested in connecting my laptop.

[slim] Connect Laptop to Transporter to utilise it`s lovely DAC

2016-07-25 Thread scoob101

Hi all, bit of advice if you can please..

I am planning for the eventual demise of Spotify on squeezebox, so I`m
looking to connect my laptop to the DAC in my Transporter as a
contingency.

I`m looking at one of these. Anyone got any thoughts or alternative
suggestions?

I tried installing Playlist Manger and didn't get any change in
behaviour at all. Perhaps the plugin isn't functioning. I`ll try
uninstalling/reinstalling.

When I have a Spotify track playing (using official plugin) , if I
select "Add to playlist" the only playlists which come up are the ones I
have on Spotify - none of my local playlists are shown.

Is it definitely possible to add Spotify tracks to a locally hosted LMS
playlist?

Pragmatism will do you much better than Ranting

We are where we are. LMS isn't going anywhere. Mysqueezebox.com is going
to die - its simply a matter of timing. Better to admit that, understand
what services will be affected, and plan for it.

I have to say that it mystifies me that Logitech would continue to put
budget into maintaining Mysqueezebox.com when they get no revenue for

[slim] Which Services not supported on Transporter?

2016-05-26 Thread scoob101

No transporter thread, so posting here, hope thats OK.

I`ve ordered one NIB from the US. Comes tomorrow. Very excited.

Only need it for streaming local music files, but curious what other
services it may support.

Does it support the BBC iplayer plugin I currently use on my 2 radios
and duet?

Any major services it doesn't support?

Cheers!

[slim] Support Going forward.

2016-05-23 Thread scoob101

I recently abandoned a doomed experiment with sonos and have come home
to Squeezebox (far superior for me :D ) - so much so, that I`ve now
added a transporter to my collection.

Im interested (and amazed) and the current level of support the
community enjoys. Its abundantly clear that this product is alive and
kicking!

Which leads me to my question::

Presumably Logitech is spending money on certain services to keep thinks
like spotify and tunein radio functions alive.

Presumably one day Logitech may (quite understandably) stop spending
that money, and we would lose these internet services as a consequence,
and we are then forced to run standalone LMS servers without any
supporting services.

Is there any indication at all when this may happen? When it does, will
direct internet radio playback still work?

[slim] 2 players = 2 radio Streams?

2010-07-29 Thread scoob101

Hi all, random question of the day...

Sometimes I`ll have my Duet playing a radio station, and a SB Radio
playing the exact same stream in another room. I don`t normally have
the players sync`d.

In this situation am I pulling the steam *twice* from the internet (i.e
double the bandwidth being used)?

Appreciate any input on this.

Re: [slim] Where are your CDs?

2010-07-29 Thread scoob101

My CD`s will need to go up into the lost soon, as my daughter starts to
get big enough to consider destroying them!!

I note the why not just ditch them/sell them/give them away
discussion.

Notwitstanding the copyright infringement issues - Here`s why I won`t.

I`ve had 3 instances now where I have had to re-rip CD`s because the
(lossless) tracks won`t play at all, or are garbled. Backups tend to be
useless in this situation, because the backups contain the same
corruptions. So - the original media is still required in some rare
cases.

I`m sure many think this is not an issue, but it was for me, so I will
keep them handy.

Just my 2p

Really? Thats very interesting. I run a WHS with squeezebox server, so
youre telling me that I`m pulling just one stream when playing the same
radio station on multiple players. Thats Perfect.

In this situation, I note that the players have a slight delay beween
them -I guess that must be caused by buffering then, rather than
playing different streams. Of course I can sync if i want to sort that
delay out.

Many thanks for the info. I won`t be so picky now about turning off
players when moving between rooms!

FLAC to MP3 to put on my iPhone. It does all of these things well and

YMMV but its been the best program for me. Used to use EAC, switched to
dBpowerAmp and have never looked back.

Many thanks for the recommendation - Just taken a look at the prices
and its a bit too steep for something thats really a nice to have -
$54+$18 for he family pack+17.5% tax=$84 AND 5$ a year after the 1st

Yea, I know WMA is proprietry, but I`m of the opinion that if it aint
broke and all that...Been using WMA lossless for over 5 years, and it
hasn`t caused me one irritation. Just works.

I was just interested in reducing the network overhead for my wireless
SB radio`s, by going FLAC (I understand that WMA lossless is transcoded
to WAV, meaning a bigger overhead for the wireless network)

If I could get a ripper/burner for FLAC which was free or at least
cheap, then I may have a reason to change.

Right now, WMP12 works, and is free. For the moment at least, i can
live with pushing more data over my wifi than I have to.

Perhaps other products will come along which will change my mind.

I don`t have any pressing need to seek though my WMA lossless files, so

[slim] Program to Rip AND Burn to FLAC

I have recently changed my players to be all squeezeboxes (2 radios and

everything in FLAC (i.e. ripping new CD`s and, just as importantly,
burning FLAC files to CD for the car.

Can anyone suggest one program which can both rip CD`s to FLAC and Burn
FLAC files to play in a CD player?

Simplicity is important as the wife will want to use it.
