Re: [slim] Announcement: SqueezeCenter 7.0

2008-03-03 Thread slimnick

Congratulations on the new release - SqueezeCenter is a huge improvement
over the old SlimServer.

I'm currently running a previous nightly (v17665) on fedora, and have
the yum repo set-up with the squeezecenter-release repo enabled. Do you
know when the repository will be updated so I can just 'yum update' to
the stable release?

Thanks
Nick.

[slim] Slimserver roadmap.

2008-01-09 Thread slimnick

Hi

Does anyone happen to know the release schedule for SlimServer 6.5.5,
and SqueezeCenter 7.0?

Even if there are no specific dates, a rough idea would be useful (i.e.
are these releases days, weeks, or months away).

Thanks
Nick.

OK - thanks all for your input. Sounds like SC7.0 is not too far away
then.

Cheers
Nick.

Re: [slim] nb alloc failed in slimproto reboot when wireless bridge is enabled.

2007-09-08 Thread slimnick

The router reboot helped, but the problem has since returend.

In short, the Squeezebox, when used as a wireless bridge in my network,
seems pretty fragile when large file transfers are involved.

Again, is anyone sharing the my experience?

Re: [slim] nb alloc failed in slimproto reboot when wireless bridge is enabled.

2007-09-04 Thread slimnick

The back-up continued today, and when I returned home from work I found
my Linksys router had locked-up. So, I power-cycled it and since when
the back-up has resumed and the Squeezebox has remained rock solid
since - no errors or reboots seen.

So, this must have been a problem with my router - no further
investigation required.

[slim] nb alloc failed in slimproto reboot when wireless bridge is enabled.

2007-09-02 Thread slimnick

Hi All

Here's a problem I'm experiencing, and I'm interested if anyone else
has seen it, and whether there is a solution.

My set-up is a Squeezebox 2 running firmware version 81. The server is
6.5.4 running on Fedora Core 6 x64.

The Squeezebox is connected both to LAN and WLAN with the wireless
bridge feature enabled. The wired-side of the Squeezebox is connected
to my server via a Netgear ethernet switch. The wireless side connects
to a Linksys WAG354G via 802.11G with WPA encryption. Connected to the
WAG354G are various devices, including a NAS back-up hard-disk.

I recently decided to back-up all of my FLACs on my server to the NAS
attached hard-disk, and so initiated the copy between the two devices.
The files have for the last few days (I have many thousands) been
flowing from the server, through the switch, then across the
Squeezebox's wireless bridge to the Linksys, and then finally to the
back-up disk. Fine, it a bit slow, but I'm in no hurry.

Now, here's the problem. Intermittently, the display on the Squeezebox
will change from the standby 'time date screensaver' to the following
error message:

nb alloc failed in slimproto

This is displayed for about 5 seconds, then the Squeezebox restarts
itself. Once re-started the Squeezebox connects automatically to the
wireless network, and the file copy continues. The frequency of the
error can be anywhere between a few minutes, to a few hours apart, but
this is a regular occurrence whilst the file copy is ongoing.

Looking at the error, I'm wondering if this is some kind of memory
allocation issue, but I'm no expert. So, does anyone have any clues as
to what is going on here?

Thanks
Nick.
