[slim] SB3 Random Reboots

2015-12-17 Thread treble

I have a 'Classic' Squeezebox 3 that randomly reboots when playing
music. Maybe every 10-20 minutes or so. I have replaced the power
supply, took out the wireless card (it is connected by ethernet), did a
Xilinx chip and factory reset. It doesn't run hot, so I don't think it
is overheating... Not sure what else to do. Any other ideas? I love
my Squeezebox and would hate to retire it.

[slim] Play Next button gone in 7.6?

2011-08-21 Thread treble

I just moved my server to an old laptop and installed vortexbox on it.
This upgraded the Squeezeserver software to 7.6.0. All seems to work
fine (yeah!) but my Play Next button seems to be gone from some
places.

It is still their in Album view or Artist view, but not in Song view.
In Song view I only see Play and Add to Playlist. The 'Save' seems to
be gone to (heart shaped icon). I also don't see the Play Next
button after I generate a MusicIP Mix.

I remember with older versions you could add ?MoreThanThis=1 to the
URL, but that doesn't work either.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks,

Re: [slim] Play Next button gone in 7.6?

2011-08-21 Thread treble

Thanks for all the feedback. I don't know about the cookies and I have
Additional Playlist Buttons in Interface checked. But it is what
JJZolx says, Play Next and Save is missing from various places in the
webinterface. So I will vote for Bug 17228.

iPeng still has Play Next at least... It is an important
functionality. If I have friends over I don't want to cut off the
current song playing but want to play my newly selected song/mix next.

Thanks,

Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!

I feel a lot of people seem a bit negative about the app. I have iPeng,
but downloaded the Logitech app as well out of curiosity. And I must
say, it works really well! It is fast and very easy to use. However,
there aren't as many functionalities as iPeng, like being able to
sync/unsync other players. But the lack of advanced features can
actually be a good thing, because now it is so simple and
straightforward to use, without the sometimes confusing icons iPeng
has. I think it is a big hit!

Re: [slim] MusicIP and accented characters in 7.5.1

2010-05-13 Thread treble

SqueezeCenter can create mixes with accented characters in the filename,
however it won't play them since it can't find them because of the wrong
character encoding (the error will show up in the log). Do yours
actually play?

This character encoding has been an issue with many versions of
SqueezeCenter/Slimserver. Very frustrating. I resisted 'fixing' my
filenames as well, but now I gave in, and changed my library.

See also bugs I filed earlier (which probably will never be fixed since
it is under the 7.4.* version):

Re: [slim] MusicIP and accented characters in 7.5.1

2010-05-12 Thread treble

Unfortunately the Perl script didn't work with my cygwin installation on
Windows XP. It could find the accented characters but didn't replace
them with their 'equal' part, like é to e.

So I converted my characters in filenames and folders from UTF to ASCII
with MP3Tag using the 'action' feature. For people who want to try as
well, I have attached the 'mta' file so you don't have to recode it
yourself. Drop it in the folder: C:\Documents and
Settings\YOUR_LOGIN_NAME\Application Data\Mp3tag\data\actions. I now
know more then I ever wanted to know about character sets!

There is still some manual clicking needed since 'do with all' or
something like that, doesn't really seem to work. Also, the folder
above the folder with mp3 files doesn't get fixed. So if you have
something like: Music\Maná\Maná - 2008 - Arde El Cielo\01 - Dejame
Entrar.mp3, the first Maná doesn't get converted to Mana, but the one
in the Album name does. You can easily find those with the Perl script
using cygwin.

The result re: MusicIP? It fixed the problem!!! I can now create
mixes with SqueezeCenter in which songs with accented characters appear
and they even play without complaining!

So in short, if you want to use MusicIP you can not have
'international' characters in the filename or folder, but you can in
the ID tags.

[slim] MusicIP and accented characters in 7.5.1

2010-04-28 Thread treble

I am still having problems with MusicIP mixes and songs with
accented/international characters in the filename. I can create a mix
fine with a song with an é or other characters, but the songs with
international characters don't show up in the playlist, incl. the seed
song if it has some.

There is something with the encoding that is different on initiating
the mix and getting it back from MusicIP.

Example: creating mix, in the log it will say:
[10-04-28 20:48:23.5593] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Plugin::getMix (940)
Creating mix for: song using: E:\Music\All Music\Music\' A B C D
E\Angelique Kidjo\1991 - Logozo\04 - Wé-Wé.mp3 as seed.
[10-04-28 20:48:23.5602] Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Plugin::getMix (951)
Request
http://localhost:8082/api/mix?song=E%3A%5CMusic%5CAll%20Music%5CMusic%5C'%20A%20B%20C%20D%20E%5CAngelique%20Kidjo%5C1991%20-%20Logozo%5C04%20-%20W%E9-W%E9.mp3variety=2rejectsize=0mixgenre=0style=15sizetype=trackssize=50

But then when it tries to play it:
[10-04-28 20:52:14.2621] Slim::Formats::readTags (157) File missing:
E:\Music\All Music\Music\' A B C D E\Angelique Kidjo\1991 - Logozo\04 -
Wé-Wé.mp3
[10-04-28 20:52:14.2630] Slim::Schema::objectForUrl (816) Error: Null
track request! Returning undef.

See how the character encoding is very different of the Wé-Wé title...
The seed song actually doesn't even show up as the first song as it
should, and playing the MusicIP list it will say when it plays the
first song of the mix number 2 of 50.

I don't think it is a MusicIP problem, because when I paste the url of
the mix request (see above line starting with [10-04-28 20:48:23.5602])
it returns a nice mix with 50 songs having international characters.

I would love to see this fixed and don't mind further troubleshooting
this. Or am I the only one seeing this. I miss my 'international'
songs... This started somewhere in 7.4.? and still happens in 7.5.0
and 7.5.1

My setup:
Version: 7.5.1 - r30688 @ Sat Apr 24 01:08:05 PDT 2010

Re: [slim] Syncing problems with 7.3

Thanks for all the feedback. Very much appreciated.

It might indeed be a constant offset that SoftSqueeze has since
upgrading to 7.3. I might play with it. But I can now 'resize'
SqueezePlay as well. I didn't realize there were different skins. The
default when you install is 'Desktop Skin', which is about 800x600.
Then I noticed Controller Skin in the Settings, and now it has a nice
small interface, actually looking like the Controller. Pretty neat!
Nice work.

Thanks again!

I know that I shouldn't expect 100% perfect sync. But it _was_ syncing
perfectly before I upgraded from 7.2 to 7.3. Syncing between software
and hardware players has improved a lot since Slimserver became
Squeezecenter. Right now I have a second or more delay which is way
too much, even for 'non-perfect' syncing.

[slim] Syncing problems with 7.3

I installed the new SqueezeCenter the other day, and not syncing between
Softsqueeze and Boom and SB3 is terrible.

I was syncing perfect with 7.2 and previous versions, but now

fine, but Softsqueeze not.

up the tracks for the artists matched by the string. Use the Advanced
 search to do that.

Maybe I am a little dense, but if the simple search is searching for
text strings in the TITLE, ARTIST and ALBUM fields, why doesn't it find
all tracks by an artist then? Isn't the artist just a text string in
the ARTIST field?

Example:
SONG TITLE:Pata Pata
ALBUM: Putumayo Presents The Best Of World Music, Vol. 1: World Vocal
ARTIST: Miriam Makeba

If I search for Makebe this song doesn't show up, but searching for
Pata it does...

[slim] Re: Search bug?

2006-10-07 Thread treble

Hi Ceejay,
Yes, that's the behavior I would like :-)

I am using the following version:
VERSION INFO
SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Windows 2000 - EN - cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.168.210
Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

My compilations settings are as follows:
List compilation albums under each artist
List albums by all artists for that album

I have been thinking about upgrading to 6.5.1, but I am reading to many
problems with MusicMagic integration. MusicMagic (MusicIP mixer) works
ok for me on 6.5.0 (except for sometimes getting empty playlists
because of probably accented characters in filename, but that's another
thread...)

Thanks!

[slim] Re: Search bug?

2006-10-06 Thread treble

Maybe I wasn't totally clear.

When I search for Makeba it doesn't show all songs performed by her
(where she is the artist) on Various Artist albums, like these two:

4. Pata Pata from Putumayo Presents The Best Of World Music, Vol. 1:
World Vocal by Miriam Makeba
1. Pata Pata 2000 from New World Party by Miriam Makeba

So it seems that normal search only picks up those albums where Makeba
is the sole artist. To confirm this when I search for an artist who is
only present on a Various Artist album, the search doesn't return
anything. However, using Advanced Search does find the song... I am
not sure why this should be intended behavior. Don't you want to find
'all' songs by an artist when you search for it?

[slim] Search bug?

2006-09-30 Thread treble

Not all songs show up when I do a search for an artist. Only doing an
Advanced Search will show them. However, looking for a title reports
all songs...

Example:
Search for makeba gives:
Artists matching makeba: 2
All Songs
Miriam Makeba
Miriam Makeba Dizzy Gilles..

Clicking on Miriam Makeba shows only:
Pata Pata

But searching pata pata (a song by Makeba) shows more albums
featuring Makeba:
Albums matching pata pata: 1
Pata Pata

Song titles matching pata pata: 4
All Songs

1. Pata Pata from Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba
4. Pata Pata from Putumayo Presents The Best Of World Music, Vol. 1:
World Vocal by Miriam Makeba
16. Pata Pata from World Of Music - Our World by Daude
1. Pata Pata 2000 from New World Party by Miriam Makeba

[slim] Re: Wiki page on player firmware

2006-03-23 Thread treble

Since I had major problems with firmware 29 and 35, I have downgraded
firmware from 29 and up back to 28 by (clean) reinstalling 6.2.1. You
can then reinstall 6.2.2 but before starting it you have to edit the
squeezebox2.version file in the Firmware subdirectory to show something
like:

Code:

  # Squeezebox2 firmware
  #
  # fromto
  # from1..from2 to

  1..35 28

  # future versions may be downgraded to this one
  *  28

I am not sure if you really have to reinstall 6.2.1 first. It might be
just enough to edit this file (since 6.2.2 comes with FW28) and restart
the slimserver.

2006-02-07 Thread treble

I got the same thing with skipping to the next song in a random mix.
But my PC is not a dual Xeon by far ('fairly powered' you call it!?).
For me it only occured when I was using MySQL. When I switched back to
SQLite the dropouts disappeared. Unexpected, since I thought MySQL
would be quicker. I have about 13K tracks.

At one time I had a 'cache' indicator in my SoftSqueeze, like percent
full. Now I can't remember how I got it to show.

[slim] SQLite faster then MySQL!?

2006-02-01 Thread treble

Hi,

I installed MySQL awhile ago, hoping that my slimserver would run a bit
quicker. But it created actually more problems, like whenever a new
song was requested during Random Mix there was a 10 second pause or so
(see my post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20494 ).

Then I realized that even starting a Random Mix could take over 20
seconds. So I tried going back to SQLite, and now... all seems a lot
faster. A new Random Mix starts after about 5-6 seconds...

My PC is has an AMD Athlon XP 1150MHz CPU with 512+256=768M of memory.
SlimServer Version: 6.2.2 - 5815 - Windows 2000 - EN - cp1252. Other
then slimserver not much else is using CPU or Memory.

Any ideas why SQLite is fater then MySQL?

It seems my CPU usage is similar to that posted for another Win2000
machine: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20641

So if I remotely connect with SoftSqueeze to my slimserver at home, and

enough (routed to the pc with slimserver)?

[slim] FWD on Random Mix hiccups

2006-01-27 Thread treble

Whenever I do a random mix and want to skip to the next song by either
using the remote or slimserver software the song pauses for a couple
of seconds after about 10 seconds into the song. This is not a random
occurence, it happens all the time. THe time stays at 0:00, then after
about 10 seconds pauses for a couple of seconds, then starts playing
again, the clock continues then as well.

If I just let the song finish to the end, the next one plays fine.

This only happens with the random mix. I can play for example skip
through a whole album or other playlist fine.

Anyone else seeing this?

My SB3 is wireless (signal strenght about 60-70%).

[slim] Fishbone Skin: Album link missing?

2006-01-24 Thread treble

Fishbone looks very nice! But is there a way to make the Album in the
Playlist clickable in the Fishbone skin?

An example: Using the file.ext format: Clicking on 04 - Found A
Job.mp3 will play that song right away. Clicking on Talking Heads
will list the Browse Artist/Artist page. Unfortunately the Album Title
is not clickable.

15. _04_-_Found_A_Job.mp3_ by _Talking_Heads_ from -Stop Making
Sense [Special Edition]-

I tried a couple other formatting options, but then the whole entry
gets just one hyperlink to make it play right away. So now there is no
easy way without too many clicks to create an MusicMagic Mix of that
song.

What I actually would like is an extra 'mm' icon in the Playlist View
that will create an instant MusicMagic Mix based on that song added to
the current list of icons already there. Something like this:
Move Up | Move Down| Next | Remove from playlist | Song Info | mm

Or is there any other skin that will show this?

Thanks!

Maybe they are not finding each other...

In MusicMagic: do you see in the 'Slimserver' in Preferences - Send

C:\Program Files\Predixis\MusicMagic Mixer\MusicMagicMixer.exe -slim
).

Try this in the following order:
Start Slimserver
Start MusicMagic
Restart Slimserver

It works for me, using MusicMagic 1.5 and Slimserver 6.2.1

[slim] MusicMagic: Error Sending Playlist to Player

2006-01-11 Thread treble

MusicMagic seems to work fine for me, except for when I try to send a
playlist from MusicMagic to Slimserver I get the message: Error Sending
Playlist to Player or only part of the playlist arrives. Closing and
reopening MusicMagic seem to fix it, at least, I can then send again
one (but only one) playlist to SLimserver. Sending the same playlist
to eg. WinAmp works fine.

Apparently more people have the same problem. See a thread I started
on the MusicMagic forum:
http://forums.predixis.com/index.php?showtopic=1389

There is nothing reported in the logs of MusicMagic. In attachment
log1.txt you can see what is recorded in the log of slimserver (having
d_plugins,
d_cli and d_musicmagic enabled).

A successful submission event of the playlist (after closing/reopening
MusicMagic) is recorded in the log as seen in attachment log1.txt

[slim] Softsqueeze 2.3 skipping

2006-01-09 Thread treble

I just downloaded and installed Softsqueeze 2.3 hoping that would solve
the synchronization problem.

Unfortunately Softsqueeze now skips (or better from time to time
repeats part of the song, like 1 second or so). Very annoying.

Anyone else hearing this?

My platform is Windows 2000.
Slimserver 6.2.1

[slim] Re: Softsqueeze 2.3 skipping

Never mind my previous posting. I restarted my pc and it worked as it
should. No more skipping... and guess what... so far the
synchronization works!

[slim] Re: Music Magic or Mood Logic?

2006-01-02 Thread treble

I have both Music Magic and Moodlogic. MusicMagic by far is the
superior product. The Moodlogic mixes are pretty bad (unlike you like
a lot of the same artist in your mix!).

[slim] Create Instant Mix with MusicMagic

2005-12-30 Thread treble

I don't have a Squeezebox yet, but seriously thinking about it, because
the sound quality I get through my TiVo is not that great.

I use MusicMagic all the time with my TiVo ( http://www.predixis.com ).
The nice thing is that the first option on the TiVo MusicMagic screen
is the 'Instant Mix'. This creates a mix based on a random song in
your collection. If I don't like it, I just press left arrow and try
another instant mix.

As I understand how MusicMagic works with the Squeezebox is that there
is a little icon or something behind the songtitle when it is
'mixable'.

My question is if it is easy to get a random song out of my whole
collection to create a MusicMagic Mix. I read somewhere that there is
an option for 'Random Mix' for the Sqeezebox. Does this work
'instantly' or do you have to wait 10s of seconds for it to show?

THanks!

[slim] Re: Tivo vs. Squeezebox - Sound Quality

2005-12-15 Thread treble

Great! Thanks for all the replies.

I am using MusicMagic all the time with my TiVo. How does that work
with the SB, since the screen is only a few lines... Or do you have to
control it from your pc? Anyone using MusicMagic ( http://predixis.com
), with SB?

Thanks!

[slim] Tivo vs. Squeezebox - Sound Quality

2005-12-13 Thread treble

I have a TiVo and are streaming my mp3s through their home media option
(using mostly mixes generated by MusicMagic). The TiVo sound is
directly connected to my receiver (analog, with those yellow/red (RCA?)
cables).

The sound quality is ok, but I am thinking of getting a Squeezebox. I
was wondering if the SqueezeBox would give a better sound quality? Does
any one have a TiVo as well and cares to compare the sound...

THanks,
