No, you can still restore it within the App for free. Just make sure you purchase it in iPeng for iPhone, not the iPad App because you can only restore it within the same App (and you can install the iPhone version on iPad but not the other way around). Once activated on one device it will work in both Apps. Also make sure to read the part about the discount in the App if you own both iPengs. As always: you do of course have to use the same iTunes account on all devices. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [iPeng Announce] Easier to share, lower price (iPhone)
F That's bad. Couldn't you have done this one day earlier? This is an App Store problem, a broken certificate blocking the purchase queue. I implemented a workaround together with Apple four month ago and until yesterday I would have said: update iPeng. The problem TODAY is, that iPeng 2.0 is out which doesn't support your device anymore, Apple dropped the support for the ARM6 processor it uses. You don't happen to have a copy of a newer iPeng version? Now, theoretically this can get fixed with your version of the App, too, you just have to somehow get this stuck certificate cleared. The problem is, it's not stuck in iPeng but the App Store App. For some people, it has helped to log out of the App Store App (on the first tab, bottom of the page), then re-boot the device and log into the App Store again. Usually it eventually fixes itself on its own (usually when Apple cleans out some queues) but that can be between a day and several weeks. I need to figure whether I can somehow provide you with a beta version of some kind for he meantime. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [iPeng Announce] Easier to share, lower price (iPhone)
No, this should work across accounts. I'm not 100% sure about iCloud. So far, I thought the iCloud account would be something else than the App Store account you purchased the App with (so you can have set them to different Apple IDs) but I'm not 100% sure that Apps being purchased under different accounts have access to the same iCloud data. But I would expect it to. It that does not work (that is, if the playback doesn't automatically propagate or if you are not presented the discounted price in iPeng for iPad or iPeng for iPhone), then you might have to use the old procedure which still works: http://penguinlovesmusic.de/2011/03/18/new-ipeng-versions-update-playback-change-discount-model/ In any case I'd purchase the discounted playback in the iPhone version because then you are on the safe side to restore the feature on all devices even if you can't access iCloud for some reason Oh, scrap that, that was the old account, right? In that case you'd better make sure iCloud works, first. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Some sort of SwitchPlayer feature, from the iPod app to iPeng. I will survive without the feature. Well, the complaint is usually not about the price of the App itself (people who think it's too expensive don't buy it and then can't complain on the App Store) but more that you have to pay for the playback as an extra or that you have to pay separately for iPeng for iPhone and iPeng for iPad. Simple _is_ a valid point here because obviously some people did not get the fact that they don't have to pay again for playback on additional devices. But as things stand, I don't have a way to make it simpler, if you use iCloud, something probably most of today's iThingy users do, it's really _very_ simple now - you just don't have to do _anything_. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's not a plugin but an App and purchasing it is a single click of a button, I don't think anybody EVER found that difficult. It's what hundreds of millions of iPhone users do every day. Purchasing the In-App-Purchase is also just two clicks and also not an issue for anybody. The complicated thing has been getting a discount, something Apple doesn't support in the App Store (and actually even gave us a hard time initially because they considered it something we were not supposed to do). Now it became simple, too. That's all this is about. Read up on iCloud. What you are talking about is iTunes in the Cloud which is a different product,... well, it's a an iCloud feature being sold separately. It requires iCloud but doesn't come with iCloud. Also, you might not have _all_ your music in iTunes and also it would not copy all of it onto your device but stream from, yes, iCloud b) iTunes in the Cloud is not free, iCloud is. c) what I'm talking about is iCloud. iCloud is a free service that syncs settings and photos and data between your devices. Not music. You have to register once and enable it on you devices, it's just a switch. I kind of understand if you are being paranoid about registering for stuff but you have to be aware that the price of being paranoid in this case is lack of simplicity. You can't expect people to send you stuff if you refuse to give them your address. About a year ago, we discussed the possibility for ipeng to copy music from lms to ios. Any news from that ? No. And of course, if i can still buy it a second time, then indeed, it simple. I have to agree, explaining how simple it is to get a discount on a key feature (at least on iPhone, IMHO), when at the same time full price is not outrageousÂ… makes things look a little complicated. Even if discounts are really simple to get, now (I agree on that, too.) When I upgraded to iPad3 I willingly bought playback once again. I had been using iPeng daily for 2 years (?) so it felt only fair to chip in again, and that was the only way I could do it. For me the newsworthy item is the drop in iPeng for iPhone (iPod) pricing. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

That'd be lovely and a more acceptable alternative for everyone like me that don't want to go fully the apple way (or people who's employer does not allow it). No. Apple doesn't let you just add stuff to the library on the device so it's complicated and I don't really see a demand for all of that work, yet. Nobody has asked for it for a long time. People keep asking for streaming from iPhone to a Squeezebox but not for syncing content to the iPhone. I suspect those who want to do this have a solution for it. Syncing music with LMS would be great, but to make it useful it needs to be able to convert my FLAC library to lossless MP3 (or AAC) when syncing. My issue currently is that the music library on my iPhone is never updated, the issue is that the music library in iTunes is never updated because I really hate iTunes and I hate the fact that it doesn't support FLAC (which is the format my music uses). The result is that I rarely listen to music on my iPhone except for using Spotify because getting the music into iTunes and later into the iPhone is just too much work if you have a FLAC library. What I would like is to: 1. Easily sync my FLAC library to the iPhone as lossless MP3/AAC. It needs to make it possible to select a subset of the library because the whole FLAC library is not going to fit on the iPhone even if it's converted to MP3/AAC, and my FLAC library is still pretty small. 2. Ability to play the synchronized music locally on the iPhone without any network connection. This could be a completely separate app and I would easily be willing to pay another $10 (or more) for it. I guess the advantage of including it in iPeng is that you might be able to reuse some code but from a user perspective I don't really care if it's iPeng or another standalone music app which is able to synchronize with LMS and play the synchronized music without network connection. Do you know if there are any restrictions how much data (music files in this case) an app is allowed to store in it's own application storage on the iPhone ? Are there any issues with applications storing a lot of data ? How will iCloud backups work, is there any way to avoid that they also include all my music in a scenario like this as that is going to result in that I run out of iCloud backup space. The only thing I'm a bit nervous about with the above solution is that it's not really in line with Apple's way of thinking so I suspect it's just a matter of time before Apple will shutdown the possibility because they want people to play local music through the Apple iPod app instead. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [iPeng Announce] Easier to share, lower price (iPhone)
I am a iPeng user and there are a large number of Apple iPod products in our household. Since the iPod supported gapless playback of LAME mp3 files, I've been a strong supporter of iPods. I also own some Android devices... In response to Erland's post, I have to say that his requests would fit more in the Android world than iOS. There are 2 Andriod music player apps (PowerAmp and ProPlayer) that are under active development that support both mp3 and FLAC with gapless playback. In relation to the squeezebox ecosystem, squeezeplayer works quite well in combination with either squeeze commander or orange squeeze. iTunes never really bothered me. When you come from Sony's SonicStage, you have a pretty thick skin :-). When you move to an Android device, you break free of being tied to certain software. For syncing my android devices, I use Media Monkey - works great! For those that demand a choice of codecs with gapless playback on a platform more open than iOS, Android is an attractive choice at this point. This is especially true now that a number of non-phone Android devices are out there (Galaxy Player, Motorola Xoom, and all of the other tablets). I like both platforms and think both have good things to offer. Just some things to consider... maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There are new releases of iPeng for iPhone (1.5.3) and iPeng for iPad (1.3.3) in the App Store now and while they bring now new features this time, there are quite a number of improvements for all those of you who are using iPeng on several devices. SHARING PLAYBACK While iPeng for iPhone and iPeng for iPad are separate Apps, iPeng Playback was a feature that could always be shared between the two if done right, actually you even get an 80% discount on it if you own both Apps. In the past this required both Apps to be installed on the iPad. And to restore the feature on a new device you had to restore the feature on each device to enable it. With iPeng 1.5.3/1.3.3 you can use iCloud instead. All you need to do is to have iCloud enabled on your devices (and, of course, you have to use the same iTunes account) and once you have purchased the playback feature, within a few minutes it will automatically be available and enabled on all your iCloud-enabled devices, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. There's nothing else you have to do for this. DISCOUNTED PLAYBACK The same applies to the Discounted Playback feature. If you own both iPeng for iPhone and iPad you get an 80% discount on Playback. Now, again, all you need to do for this is enable iCloud on your iPhone, iPod and iPad and you can purchase the discounted feature on any of your devices (please check the price in the purchase dialog!). Of course, once enabled it will also be usable by all your other little penguins. If you don't want to use iCloud the old behavior with it's limitations will still be available. NEW PRICE ON IPHONE/IPOD TOUCH This is the first time ever we are changing a price for iPeng! So far, iPeng's App price has always been 10 US$ for each of the Apps (except for iPeng Party, of course, which is free), now we are offering the iPhone and iPad versions at different prices. Since July 1st, iPeng for iPhone sells at 5 US$. WHY IS THAT? Essentially, we believe iPeng has changed and also the way remote controls are being used has changed. When iPeng came out, for the first time you were able to have access to all your music in the palm of your hand in such an easy way and it revolutionized the way people used their Squeezeboxes (or music devices in general). You could hold it in one hand, carry it everywhere and it had all the performance to let you search and browse your music and control your players. Now, since then, the iPad has arrived. And the iPad, for many people, turned out to be an even better remote, especially using iPeng for iPad,. It has a bigger screen, even more performance and it can show more content, enable feature (e.g. through iPeng's built-in browser) that don't work well or that are less capable on the iPhone/iPod and so we believe that actually over the time, iPeng for iPad has become the more capable App that is also being used longer and more frequently by those who own both Apps and devices. iPeng on iPhone and iPod touch, however, is often being used as a player these days, especially on the road, but that's a feature you have to purchase as an addon. So as a reaction to this change in use and to the evolution of the capabilities we have decided for now to cut the price of iPeng for iPhone by 50%, iPeng for iPad stays the same as before. Will it stay that way? I don't know. There are currently no plans for further price changes and also no guarantee that the price cut will be permanent, but this is where it stands now. Have fun with it :) More info is on http://penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95791 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
