Re: [slim] Artwork for FLAC (not iTunes) music?

2009-10-10 Thread Mnyb

You can get pictures of amazon, ( mp3tag could do this a while it have
stopped working for some reason). Now You can manually fetch cover from
Amazon or any other CD selling site

You can get them via google, google works really well if you search for
pictures

example:

http://images.google.se/images?hl=ensource=hpq=Bruce+springsteen+Born+in+the+usabtnG=Search+Imagesgbv=2aq=foq=

Or amg ( all music guide )

I try to get pictures that are not under 300*300 pixels in resolution

There is always a picture somewhere.

Amazon changed it's authentication mechanism to one that is much more
complicated. As far as I know, it works again (at least here, using
MP3Tag 2.44, I get covers).

May be OK for non-classical, useless for classical. (Bach cantatas
produces no results; Bach, 34 results. Mozart, 67 results
Mahler, 8 results. Yes, well)

Re: [slim] Artwork for FLAC (not iTunes) music?

2009-10-10 Thread bobkoure

I just put a cover.jpg in each album folder.
I had to find a -lot- of album art - had a couple thou CDs ripped when
a version of the server came along that would show art in the web UI
(this before the controller).

I've had good luck with 'Album Art Downloader'
I wrote a python script to go through all my album folders, calling AAD
for each that didn't have a cover.jpg or a folder.jpg
I'm glad to share, but it only works for albums named artist name -
album name - and you'd need to install python (free/easy, but still...)

Re: [slim] Artwork for FLAC (not iTunes) music?

2009-10-10 Thread bobkoure

I forgot to mention: the dbPowerAmp CD ripper has access to the AMG
album covers (small images, but fine for a controller).
I use it and like it - have the ripper set to write an image file
(rather than embed) - and I have it using the file name thumb.jpg,
which the server will pick up, but which I can treat as no art when
scanning with AAD (see prev post).

I've settled on 500x500 as an appropriate album art size. That might
not be right for you, but you might want to think through what you want
the art for before finding you need to do a major re-do...

All my CDs were ripped to FLAC, and now I want artwork. Is there some

I think you can just add artwork to the files using an tag editor like
mp3tag or tagrename. I have lots of flac files and always add artwork
using tagrename.

You can also just drop the image in the album directory with a name of
folder.jpg and SC will pick it up from there.

OK, I understand that I could tag the files. But where do the little
jpegs (or whatever) come from? AFAIK they are not part of the ripped
files. Are they on the CDs somewhere?

I naively hoped that there would be some archive of art that I could
download automagically. Not so?

Re: [slim] Artwork for FLAC (not iTunes) music?

2009-10-09 Thread chinablues

Both MP3tag and TagRename will find artwork (and other info) directly
by looking up Amazon.com. MP3Tag is free, but I prefer TagRename.
(does other things apart from artwork). If you cannot find the artwork
on Amazon.com, I find http://www.cdcovers.cc/ to be quite useful.
Amazon.com typically has the folder.jpg in 300x300 or 500x500 pixels
size which is ideal. Cdcovers you download the album art separately and
then resize/rename to folder.jpg.
