Netgear comes to mind, they went the "user friendliness" rout. What a

Too true dat :p. It's becoming the fad with some forums as well. Two I
used to visit on a regular basis have recently "upgrade" to more "user
friendliness"
to such an extent that browsing them has become a chore , and,
as a result, I visit less and less :(.

Leinster for the cup?

I'm guessing nothing.

BBCiPlayer uses a vendor feed of last 7 days which does not have
preferences and no feedback mechanism. Are all the vendors going to
rely on a BBC auth procedures (legal issues would be great) and somehow
adding userids into their devcies - unlikely.

The Apps for iOS, Android and Web browser - BBC have long wanted to have
"my xxx" so they can "tailor" suggestions - "in order to provide a
better services" - this is one of the reason they got rid of the old
feeds with A-z and schedule etc.

It is the lastest fad for UIs making sure you'll never find a sepcfic
program becuase they think you won't like it.

[slim] BBC and the Squeezebox?

2017-05-11 Thread Man in a van

This afternoon I opened BBC iPlayer Radio on my Android tablet to be
informed that soon I will have to "sign in" to my BBC Account to enjoy
the pleasures of "My Radio", as determined by the BBC.

I have had a BBC account for at least 6, maybe 8 years, so this is not
something I am unfamiliar with.

Lots of data hoovering going on also, to facilitate a better experience
for the user (again, as the BBC thinks).

I may just decide to go back to the old cassette deck and record the
programs I like, rather than use the digital convenience of play it
again (I already have loads of stuff on my freesat and freeview boxes).

Well, disregarding that for the moment, and it was a bit of a précis,
WHAT ARE THE LIKELY IMPLICATIONS FOR SQUEEZEBOX USERS OF THIS SIGN IN
MALARKEY?

[slim] BBC Radio on Squeezebox

2006-03-14 Thread Nick Pettefar
Hi, I'm new here but have owned several players for several years.

Is it possible to pick up BBC Radio on a Squeezebox 2?

(I'm running the server software (v6.2) on a Solaris SPARC box.)

You must be new as the discussions about AlienBBC can't be ignored :-)

What you need is mplayer and the AlienBBC plugin:

Good luck!
