Yes, the Lightning DS app is the easiest way to setup the device, but you can also configure everything via the webinterface of the player which is reachable via its ip address. But to control playback, browse tidal or Qobuz you have to use the app. > I had to buy an ipad as I don't have an iOS devices and Auralic no longer have an > Android app. Quite an expensive remote control! Yes *lol*. I can use my iPhone, so no need to buy another iOS device. I was not aware that Auralic had an Android app before... > I hadn't really thought through using LMS but that is interesting. I will have a play using LMS to run the > Aries. I do not like the Lightning DS app at all, thats why I use iPeng and LMS with the AirPlay bridge to control the device most of the time. Regarding the integration of Tidal I think there are not much differences between LMS and Lightning DS and the Qobuz integration in LMS is much more better than in the Lightning DS app. the only downside in using the Aries vwith AirPlay and LMS is that only music up to 44,1 KHz/16 bit quality can be played, because AirPlay does not support higher resolution of music files. Thats the reason why UPNP support for the Aries player in LMS via the UPNP bridge would be really nice, with UPNP there are not such limitations. So if you like to listen to MQA files from Tidal or hires Qobuz titles this is not possible with LMS unfortunatly :-(. > How do you find the sound compares between the two streamers? I think the Aries sounds much more better than the Transporter, thats why I bought it :-). When I use my external DAC with both players the difference is not that big, but if I use the internal DAC of the Transporter and let Aurlic play via the external Telemann DAC the difference is quite good to hear. The Transporter is still great and very good, but the G2 is much more natural e.g. And it depends on the music how big the difference between the two devices are. Jazz, Classic and other acoustical stuff is better with the Aries, Rock and Metal e.g. do not make much difference. Hi Schoepp, I currently use Lightning DS as before I got the Aries my understanding was that this is the best way to set up and control the device. I had to buy an ipad as I don't have an iOS devices and Auralic no longer have an Android app. Quite an expensive remote control! I hadn't really thought through using LMS but that is interesting. I think the Tidal integration is much better on Lightning DS but playing from my server I much prefer LMS. Lightning DS's inability to group compilation albums is driving me insane! I will have a play using LMS to run the Aries. How do you find the sound compares between the two streamers? The Aries G2 and also my old Transporter are connected to the Telemann, so I can swithch between both players if I want. Do you use the Aries G2 with LMS or are you using the native Lightning DS app from Auralic only? I use the Aries G2 very ofthen with LMS via the AirPlay bridge plugin, that works quite good and I can use iPeng to control player, which is much more comfortable then using the native Lightning DS app :-). Getting the player working in UPNP mode with LMS is unfortunatly not possible so far, at least I had no success :-(. [slim] Black Transporter for sale
I know this is not the reason for this forum so apologies but I would much rather this went to a Squeezebox enthusiast. I have a black Logitech Transporter with TrasNav knob. I have owned it from new since May 2009. I have the original packaging, manual, aerials, remote, power leads etc. It is in great condition and has never given any problems. The only reason I am moving it on is that I have been blown away by a DAC which is USB input only, so have switched to an Aurilac. I do have 4 other Squeezeboxes so not fully withdrawing. I will make sure it is deleted from my mysqueezebox.com account (unlike every Squeezebox I have ever bought from ebay). Any sensible offer accepted. I am in the UK but would be happy to ship abroad if you are happy to pay for the delivery. pm if interested.
