Well, maybe if you upgraded from 7.3 to 7.5, but if you went from 7.4
to 7.5 then you're just plain wrong about this. SB2 and SB3 have been
running firmware 130 since 7.4.0, and if you can find the differences
betweeen these two firmware releases then you get the prize:

What drivel. The SB1 still works, and its firmware hasn't been ugraded

These forum threads are pathetic.

The old slims are no longer new. They won't be made better. All new
effort is going into the new platform.

The kind is dead, long live the king.

The audio out of the Radio is acceptable, but it doesn't hold a candle
to the Boom. I hope they continue to have a high-quality-speaker

This is not an official Logitech forum. It is a user forum that
sometimes practices the art of speculation. :)

Any other site linking to a discussion on this forum and considering it
an official Logitech statement...is acting quite foolishly.

As far as I know Best Buy has been selling Boom's for 150.00. I was in
Ft Wayne last weekend and there were three of them on the shelf. (and I
wish I had 450.00 to buy them) That's all I know for sure. I can
speculate but it would be just that...speculation. I usually leave the
speculation up to others who are more knowledgeable about Logitech
matters. Then we can make fun of them when they are wrong. :)

In other words..no one knows FOR sure.

 Is this TRUE?

NO.

Read the bugzilla link, as it doesn't even need 'official clarification'
beyond what's there. It only mentions stopping devel efforts for older
'ip3k' hardware players. Officially, you get what you have now. This
doesn't preclude third party patches, at least for software-side fixes (ie
sync ui).

Am I right in saying that this closure also covers the Receiver portion
of the Duet ?

Whilst I'm hardly surprised, 'tis a pity given the wireless logic on
the SBR seems to me pretty buggy. (Saying that almost everything is
done on the server by pre-Jive squeezeboxes hardly helps when you can't
get through to the server !)

I always thought the radio was in essence the boom 2.

With the alarm problems on the boom the developers have hinted there
was essentially no more room on the firmware to fix the alarm problems,
so it does sound like fixing anything but the most ip3k systems has been
on hold for at least a little bit, this is really more of a formality.

I'm not sure how they're going to handle the transition to squeezeplay
clients beyond stopping development on the old devices. Squeezeplay
should be more asynchronous than the old approach hopefully make for a
more robust experience in regards to syncing, alarms and such, but in
general its been less reliable with fewer options.

I hope they have a strategy where they can leverage the advantages of a
fatter client over time while keeping the same functionality we enjoy on
the older devices.

Re: [slim] Bye bye to Boom and Transporter....

2010-05-12 Thread Mnyb

It is not as dramatic as it looks the server will still support them but
no new things will be added to the firmware.

But as this are old slim devices almost everything is done by the
server anyway, so you won't notice in most cases.

This has been the practical situation for a long time regarding classic
(aka SB3 )

But as most menus and functions are driven by the server many of those
things can change anyway if logitech wants an systemwide UI change or
something like that.

For the SB3 I see no problems, it is very functionally stabilized not
many bugs to speak of.

Transporter might be another issue, it seems to have some irritating
properties that never where sorted out properly if you read the
audiophile forum,
but maybe i should stop doing that to feel more sane ?
