Unicode code points to display it.

Thanks for your help. I figured it out.

Even though the release note for SC7.0.1 states that the new firmware is
capable of displaying 'non-english' characters on the controller, Asian
characters do not seem to have been included yet. Am I correct?

Hi,

Could you confirm there is no hardware limitation such as
buffer/internal memory size to prevent the controller from support CJK
characters?

Thanks in advance.

Encoding issue or just no well designed suitable font available?

Either way, is this a CJK issue or are there other important
characters/languages to look out for as well (like cyrillic)?

Hebrew and Cyrillic seem to be fine for song titles etc, though we don't
do right-to-left for Hebrew yet. But I've only tested with a few files.

[slim] Can Squeezebox Duet display international languages?

2008-02-25 Thread tosehee

Hi.

I am a new to SB, and am thinking of purchasing the SB3 or the new
Duet. Before I make a purchase though, I'd like to know if this is
supported.

I tried to search, but couldn't find the similar threads, so if this
was answered before, please forgive me.

Q. A lot of my musics are stored in Mac or Windows with international
characters (some Korean, some Japanese, and some Chinese). Can
squeezecenter 7 read this and display on the Duet screen properly? Is
it same for the directory name/structures?

Thanks for taking time to read and respond.

Regards

It will play them but the text on the controller won't be readable. It
should be fine on the web interface however.

The server software has a web interface - see
http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_features.html and
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SqueezeCenter

is this accessible through the controller?
Not directly, the controller communicates directly with the server and
displays the same data in it's own menus. You can however use the web
interface from pretty much anything with a browser.

So, let me get this straight.

The musics in Asian characters can't be played by the controller. I
have to use the computer to play that through the web browser..

So, what good is the controller in this case? What benefit does the
controller has for me? Isn't it better for me to buy something like
iPod touch that can connect to the web browser instead?

Someone else with access to the actual hardware needs to confirm this for
you, but I'm 99.9% sure Browse by folder works on the Controller too, not
just the web interface. As long as your file and folder names are in a
supported character set then you should be OK.

If this were not the case then you would certainly not be the only person
disappointed by this.

Appreciate the prompt response.

I guess I will have to wait and see for now or until I get the definite
answer. I don't want to spend $400 on the device that won't display or
play the favorite musics of mine.

Thanks again.

That's right. Home - Music Library - Music Folder (for the English
