Re: [slim] Help with picoreplayer/LMS setup - no setup Samba section

2018-05-27 Thread paul-

piCorePlayer is the base system, it includes player software by default.
You have to install other packages to be a server. Here are the basic
steps.

1. Use the standard version on pCP.
2. Burn the image, and then boot the system.
3. Press the Beta mode Tab at the bottom.
4. On the main page, Resize the filesystemlet the system reboot
several times.
5. Goto the LMS tab, and install LMS.
6. Attach your USB disk. Then on the LMS mount the disk.
7. After it is mounted, ssh in and check that you can write to the
disk as User tc. Fix rights per my previous message if you cannot
write.
8. Install samba. And configure. Be sure you set the password to the
samba share.
9. Start the LMS web interface, and configure your playlist and media
folders.
10. Configure the squeezelite player on pCP.
11. Using LMS interface, select something to play.

When doing "3. Boot and configure the system", did you install LMS?
Without a media server, I don't see how piCorePlayer can see the music
files in the library.

Yes, the regular version of pCP is full featured. Disk permissions is
an area that is always troublesome. I've not found a good way to handle
without blasting the permissions once mounted. Once the permissions are
handled, then its no problem and trouble free.

There isn't an app to control piCoreplayer, but there's an app to
control Logitech Media Server (LMS) when you're up and running. App for
iPhone is iPeng.

Re: [slim] Help with picoreplayer/LMS setup - no setup Samba section

2018-05-26 Thread sweiss42

Hi Paul - thank you. I am getting crazed and would really appreciate a
set of simple steps to get this going. My objective was to get a music
player ...

If I understand you correctly I should:

1. Download the "standard version" of picoreplayer
2. mount the SSD to the Rasp Pi
3. Boot and configure the system
4. Use a Browser to connect to the picoreplayer

I will then see options to display the contents of the library, play
music etc?

Do you know if the standard version allows me to run Samba - this is
key for me. I would like to as you say simply leave the drive connected
to the Rasp Pi and access it remotely over the network from my Windows 7
system where I will rip the CD on the Windows 7 system over the net
where the file is created/stored on the drive mounted on the Rasp Pi.

Then simply use a function to update the library and play the files.

I really really appreciate your help - I've tried OpenElec on a CuBox
which was very buggy, then bought a Rasp Pi 3 B with a HiFiBerry Digi+
board and tried runeaudio but couldn't get runeaudio to output the music
through the digi+ board. Someone at hifiberry told me to use
picoreplayer. Just getting a little frustrated at this point and wanted
to mention the above so you can get a feeling for just how much I
appreciate your help - thank you thank you.

Regards

First the Audio version is a Realtime kernel, you will find that it will
destroy the performance when using your system as a server. the
majority of users are fine with just using the regular version. pCP is
managed with just a simple browser, there is no app.

[slim] Help with picoreplayer/LMS setup - no setup Samba section

2018-05-26 Thread sweiss42

Dear Forum members. I recently purchased a Rasp Pi 3B and HiFiBerry
Digi+ Pro and loaded picoreplayer that I have been trying to setup. I
have a 500GB USB SSD plugged in to store my music files. I want to mount
the USB Drive using Samba so I can access it from my Windows system to
rip music to the USB Drive from my PC.

Using Google I see that there are "how to" posts that show the Samba
Setup Screen/Settings but I don't have the Samba Setup on my LMS Tab. I
downloaded the optimized for audio version of picoreplayer if that makes
a difference. How do I get to the setup Samba settings? I've enabled LMS
and LMS is running. Help!

Thanks
Steve
