Eric I have all of mine synced up at one time without issue since SC 7.1. It get the personal feeling that before bandwidth becomes a problem, the server horsepower becomes a problem. Is it an older PC running SC with a bunch of other things going on? Is it a lower end under powered NAS trying to do the job? Or is it a newer dedicated Server or PC running SC alone? I feel all of this matters. And how good is your wireless network and the signal at each location. In my opinion, all of these things matter and play a large part. Each issue has to be resolved before a large synced system works well. Some folks will only need to find one problem, others will have multiple problems, and still other will have no issues at all. Each home and installation is different. I should replace them for the bigger buffer and better graphics of SB3s but I really like the under counter mounting brackets. The Transporter is pretty cool if one has a fair or above main system. After the market closes (Mon-Fri), I go into the Media Room and listen to tunes on my main system for a couple of hours. We have dinner, then either watch a DVD or listen to more music. While making dinner, we listen to the Boom in the kitchen. I made a mobile setup that I used to more around with me all the time (pre-Boom era). It showed me how often and how much I would listen to music in a specific place if I would take the trouble to move and plug up the SB3 and A5s. Over time, those locations got there own setups. I also have a bad habit of not selling my used gear (can't part with it emotionally), so I had equipment to use for those locations and only needed to by a Slim Device. Of course after listening to the SB3 on my main system, I had to get a Transporter so that SB3 had to go some place. Had to have a Duet, so the SB3 moved again. And so on.. The dining room, one quest room, and all bathrooms except the master are the only rooms without a unit. Moved to HP (from QNAP TS101) to have easier ability to upgrade SqeezeCenter myself)had moved from pc (HP pavilion Pentium 4 3GHz 512M Ram) because it had run out of hard drive and was struggling to run SlimServer + TVersity (video streamer) and other apps simultaneously. The HP server seems to give faster scans (doesn't need to use LAN to access files) and means I have music to listen to when pc crashes. Have installed MusicIP onto MediaSmart as well - no issues. Generally all sync'd together so there is no disruption in music as I move round the house. Gave up on SoftSqueeze, as it doesn't sync, and contirbuted to poor pc performance. Only two are wireless, the SB3 in the living room (my first SB) and the Duet in the study (a beta SBR with a defective ethernet jack). They are all wireless. The server is connected to the router-wap via 100Mbit/s Ethernet. I also run Softsqueeze on the desktop in my study, but never try to synch to the hardware boxes, because of bad experiences when trying to do so. I have thought about getting a Transporter as part of a major change in my main audiophile setup, but need to figure some other aspects out. Just for fun I have tried to have all 4 play different music and then added 4 softsqueezes installed on laptops also playing different music. All 8 players was using the wireless network in the house. All my music is in flac. From the logs from the server the bandwith load was between 15-20 MBit. I took a look on the logs from the AP and they showed the same. My AP is 54 MBit DLINK DWL3200. So as far as I could tell the my limit is very high. Well thats entirely up to your network architecture and server, I would not expect 10 boxes to play flac from the same wireless AP. But with the rigth routers and multiple AP's and many wired boxes, i think you can have a lot Squeezeboxes, someone on this forum has 14 of them. With the right kind of server your not even limited to one ethernet port if 1 gbit or 100 mb is not enough for you. I have 2 but they are working just fine with wireless (the server is wired to the router) no sync problems with that. Even using the least efficient method of streaming FLAC, I believe the system has been tested to stream to at least 16 devices without any issues. Using MP3 it is probably even higher, the thing to remember is that there is a buffer and that it is not a constant full rate data stream. Is there a point when one will run out of bandwidth or have too many Slim Devices (basically the same thing)? There is, if I understand what is at issue. I was kind of thinking if there was a near term break point that people have found in which network bandwidth, server horsepower (on a typical older used pc), or the ability for players to sync up started to suffer. 1 x SB3 2 x SB2 1 x SB1G 2 x Slimp3 4 x Softsqueeze users 1 x boom on my wish list All but SB3 wired to a Win2K30-SBS, SB3 Wireless (and most used device) - mostly MP3 though moving to FLAC as time permits- no issues since installing the first Slimp3 though rarely more than 4 devices running at one time.
