Re: [slim] I think my SliMP3 just died
Hi there, I just hooked up my SliMP3 to a lab power supply and stepped down the voltage from 5V. Guess what, below ~4.6V audio drops out but otherwise the device works (receives IR commands, display working properly, shows playing progress, etc.). So it seems the DAC is the first to quit when the input voltage gets too low whereas the rest of the device keeps working. Stepping the voltage back up leads to heavy distortions first until it recovers at ~4.65V. And it takes just 0.45A at this voltage so its power consumption is only a bit more than 2.1 Watts which I find pretty amazing. It is typical for switching power supplies that they fail to keep up the specified voltage sooner or later, depending on the load. Mostly this is due to dying filter capacitors in the secondary stage of the power supply. This does not happen all at once but is a slow but steady process so the effective voltage delivered will ramp down very slowly over time. Yours might just be in a state where the voltage is sufficient for everything except the DAC. So the PSU - once again - would by my prime suspect here. They are dirt cheap (unless you want something really well-made) so I would recommend to replace it. It's very likely this brings your SliMP3 back to full glory. Cheers, Joe PN me if your Boom / Classic / Transporter display has issues! With lms i cannot find anything special If it says it plays but there is no sound its unlikely a power supply issue, but rather a problem with connection to amplifier or a non updated LMS version (I left an issue with the first 8.2 release that should be corrected now in nightly 8.2.1) LMS 8.2 on Odroid-C4 - *SqueezeAMP!*, 5xRadio, 5xBoom, 2xDuet, 1xTouch, 1xSB3. I also have a slimp3 (first one from 2000 or 2001). As I read that LMS 8.2.1 supports slimp3 again, I connected it to my system. The displays shows playback, but there is no sound. Some have suggested a new pus. What is this? I originally had some Sony remote that came with it, might there be some special settings? Now it's working. Maybe not for long? But it's working. I suspect JoeMuc2009 would be best person to fix ( see https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/) - however if you are in the UK - you may need a carnet for the SLiMP3 to avoid paying duty twice. Maybe even PM JoeMuc2009 for this thoughts. A Hifi repair shop would be next best choice but probably with a lot of Covid compliant "handholding". bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'll try plugging it in downstairs again. That's where it was initially very badly breaking up, but maybe that was it's 'last stand', and it's now just silent after a reboot? Back to the SliMP3. Is there audio coming out of both channel but it just sound terrible ? If so, then it is possible failure of some components on final output stage such as caps which typically fail with age. Caps are relatively easy to replace. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks alfista, I've not heard of that before. If it had a LAN port, it would be a great option! Not so good for this situation as it's wifi only. While not fantastic sound it might be good enough ... especially as it only needs a cable. I have booted Joggler from a USB stick attached via a powered USB 2 hub and connected a DAC to the same hub and it all worked. However, I might have been lucky. [slim] I think my SliMP3 just died
Hi All, Yesterday, my wife told me about really bad playback on the kitchen system. At first, I assumed it was down to the Joggler that I added a few weeks ago, as that's the newest piece of kit, but that seemed fine and the playback was still awful when using the SliMP3 alone. I switched the SliMP3 with my SqueezeBox2, and that worked fine. So, I've narrowed things down to the SliMP3. There could be a power issue (the SqueezeBox2 adaptor will power the SliMP3, but the SliMP3 adaptor won't power the SqueezeBox2), but it seems to turn on fine with its own adaptor. When I put the SliMP3 what the SqueezeBox2 came from, I can't get any sound out at all. All looks well, but just silence. So, my choices are to either buy a replacement Squeeze device, or buy a DAC for the Joggler. I don't have a very impressive sound system, so a cheap(ish) DAC should do me. If that's my best option, my questions are: - Do any of the cheaper DAC's output to RCA cables, or do I need to get an adaptor to feed the RCA's into a 3.5mm socket? - I boot from USB. If I buy a USB splatter, to enable the use of the DAC, will booting from USB still work? - Will all of this be fine, or is it asking a Joggler to do too much? Thanks, Damian Gingermagic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30509 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113945 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
