There has been reports that Spotify actually compresses and equalizes the material, so it might be that the difference is not down to bit rate. Re: [slim] LMS and Pandora
I did some more digging - and found that Sonos implemented it on 1st October about 2 years ago (I don't know if that is 2013 or 2014 because their forum post does not show precise date. https://en.community.sonos.com/music-services-and-sources-228994/enable-higher-bitrate-option-for-pandora-one-on-sonos-4460034/index3.html#post13031517 So - implies to me that it is a commercial rather than technical reason that prevents it for MySqueeze users. Sonos seem to suggest that 192k Pandora stream is available on their devices on this page: https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/64/~/pandora-and-sonos Paul Webster wrote: > If Sonos listeners are getting it at 192k then that is a change from the > past. > Would be interesting to know since it implies that Pandora have at least > made the changes at their end for such a thing to work, implying it is a > commercial limitation now. > Here is an old thread on Sonos forum showing that the had the same issue > - and it includes feedback from Pandora with reasons. > https://en.community.sonos.com/troubleshooting-228999/pandora-one-13066 cd1999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65707 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105581 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] LMS and Pandora
If Sonos listeners are getting it at 192k then that is a change from the past. Would be interesting to know since it implies that Pandora have at least made the changes at their end for such a thing to work, implying it is a commercial limitation now. Here is an old thread on Sonos forum showing that the had the same issue - and it includes feedback from Pandora with reasons. https://en.community.sonos.com/troubleshooting-228999/pandora-one-13066 Paul Webster http://dabdig.blogspot.com Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105581 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] LMS and Pandora
Thank you everyone for the clarification. I'm also using Spotify (Triode plugin @ 320k) and it seems that the quality of the audio is significantly better. Also, one of my players is Raspberry Pi with Squeezlite but that stream also seems to be limited to 128k (looks like Pandora API limitation). I understand that Pandora is allowing 192k on Sonos. It is a pity that they can't do the same for LMS. All squeezeboxes will play these with no downsamping (as they will mp3 files that are 256kbs or 320kbs) These are not hi-res streams such as 24/192 or 24/96. *Home:* VortexBox 4TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9 > Squeezelite *Spares:* Touch(3), Radio(3), Boom, SB3, CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng8 & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105581 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yeah, should rephrase that (I will above). The 192k streams will get downsampled to 24/48 anyway so there is no real benefit to getting the 192k streams. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105581 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi toby10. correct that pandora one higher bitrate streams don't work with squeezeboxes. But regarding duet, it *could* theoretically play these streams. These are 192 kbps mp3 files (vs 128 kbps mp3). I think you were thinking of 24/96 or 24/192 lossless files (which would NOT play on a duet receiver). *Home:* VortexBox 4TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.3) > LMS 7.8 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9 > Squeezelite *Spares:* Touch(3), Radio(3), Boom, SB3, CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng8 & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win7(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105581 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
