[slim] Official Logitech Announcement re new UE *and* support for Squeezebox Players

2012-08-31 Thread garym

Very general language (as expected), but they do mention squeezebox
support:

Rest assured that the Squeezebox platform you’ve been enjoying over the
years will continue to provide you access to a rich world of music and
we’ll continue to address any questions or troubleshooting on our
Logitech.com support page:

2012-08-31 Thread 05mattjax

Doesn't really explain what the future holds for the old platform.
They're saying the old platform will continue but for how long until
you'll be forced to move over to UE platform to continue enjoying the
experience?

Just a bunch of words with no real facts which you can interpret in many
ways.

A very political statement.

I agree 100%. This statement didn't move my priors at all on what may
happen in the future. I only posted as it was the first somewhat
official public announcement I'd seen of the new UE that even referred
to the legacy squeezebox line.

2012-08-31 Thread jhonsber...@msn.com

The minute Logitech feels they can legally drop supporting mysqueezebox

and LMS , they will do it . So what is the warranty on a Touch? One year
?

I give it a year or two .

No more Logitech products for me . They discontinue and give up on
product lines way too soon .

Well then it will be two years then.

It seems to me watching Logitech operate that they are run mostly by
bean counters and lawyers . There is very little marketing savvy there .

Yeah. Really. Speakers? Audio? For MY SQUEEZEBOX SYSTEM?

I was very tempted to click that button and report it as inappropriate
content.

They really need to have an official announcement about how long the
online music services will still be supported.

Re: [slim] Official Logitech Announcement re new UE *and* support for Squeezebox Players

2012-08-31 Thread Letten

Before mysqueezebox.com came along (as an option for people who didn't
like/need a local server) we did just fine. Why should that not be
possible again?

I use a local server and I have no idea if it actually accesses
mysqueezebox.com once in a while, but it should be possible to cope with
in a post mysqueezebox.com scenario if it happens.

Also, we have enjoyed very good backwards compatability in the past. Our
old SB's still work, this is thanks to the deveolopers but i guess also
to Logitech who accepted that they treated us well.

It is possible if you only play music from your own library, not so
great if you play internet radio or use one of the subscription music
services.

Currently I only use Spotify via Triode's plugin and BBC iPlayer, also
via a Triode plugin! Somebody should start paying this guy. Hopefullly,
as neither relies on Mysqueezebox.com, they will continue to work. I
have never had much interest in internet radio and one streaming service
is more than enough.

I imagine that once MSB goes some enthusiasts will chip in and provide
plugins to add back the most missed services.

This won't last forever though. I expect most of us will have new kit
in five years time.
