Re: [slim] Question about signal strength
Thanks for all the great advice. I tried some of the suggestions and cutting out no longer is a problem. Looking good. I have been using the SB ecosystem for many many years and I am just as excited about it as ever! The world is my oyster with all the beautiful sounds and entertainment I enjoy. It is great. It is such a shame the LOGITECH threw the entire product line under the busit's equally sad that no manufacturer has picked it up to develop it further. What a loss! Re: [slim] Question about signal strength
I think channel width is only relevant to "n" devices and Boom is not "n". Stick to 20 if you don't use "n" devices. If the problem happens when playing internet streams - you can try increasing Radio Buffer Timeout in WebUI/Setting/Advanced/Network. Also if the problem happens when playing internet streams you can turn on "proxied" in "MP3 Streaming method" in WebUI/ Setting/Player/Audio - this proxies network connections through LMS server and not just MP3. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102149 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Question about signal strength
One other question: I have set the router channel to 6. There is an option for channel width, either 20 MHz or Auto. Which is preferable? Thank you. Re: [slim] Question about signal strength
I have a Touch in the other room currently showing 80% that occasionally drops out. There are many factors at work here including how many other wireless devices are in your household, how many wireless networks are in your local area, and how many are on the same channel as yours. First try changing your wireless channel to 1, 6 or 11. Here are a few other things you can try: 1. Put a 'reflector' (http://urbanwireless.info/antennas/parabolic-reflector) on your wireless router antenna(s) 2. Get some 'high-gain antennas' (http://www.monoprice.com/Product?seq=1&format=2&p_id=8748&aid=cse&CA_6C15C=1565856890) for your wireless router 3. Move your wireless router to a position closer to your Boom or one that is higher in elevation 4. Get a new, 'more powerful wireless router' (http://www.amazon.com/RT-N66U-Dual-Band-Wireless-N900-Gigabit-Router/dp/B006QB1RPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1411000866&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+wireless+router) 5. Install a 'wireless extender/repeater' (http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA850RE-Universal-One-button-Indicator/dp/B00E98O7GC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411001108&sr=8-1&keywords=wireless+signal+extender) mid-way between your router and the Boom 6. Use 'Powerline devices' (http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Powerline-XAVB1201-200Mbps-Starter/dp/B008LTPEXU/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1411000901&sr=1-4&keywords=netgear+powerline) to run a wired connection to your Boom via your electrical grid. They are listed somewhat in order of impact. In my experience if a wireless Squeezebox is operating ok (but unknowingly is close to the signal strength limit) setting it to sync with another unit will push it under the limit. One other thing you can try is to enable bitrate limiting on your Boom (Settings > Player (Boom) > Audio). MP3 at 192kbps requires just 15% of the bandwidth needed by FLAC. [slim] Question about signal strength
What would be the minimal signal strength to provide a stable stream? Is there any way to boost signal strength? I have an SB Boom powering a subwoofer and when it is synced to my main Touch Stereo system I tend to get cut outs. The signal strength for the Boom is between 38 and 43. Is there anything, other than moving the Boom, that I can do to increase the strength? Thank you.
