iTunes 7 will get album art but not insert it into the music file. it will store it in its own folder for (currently) exclusive use by iTunes and iPods. This isn't much of a problem. You can easily manually COPY and PASTE the artwork from the main iTunes view into selected tracks to force it to store within the tag metadata of the files. Detailed instructions: http://twistedmelon.com/blog/sep2006.html For Windows, use CTRL instead of "Command" to copy and paste where instructed. If you have only a few albums worth of tunes this isn't very cumbersome. if you have a lot of music then you'll want to automate the process with a script. In Mac OS X you can use AppleScript and there are a couple of existing scripts to do the job. Get one here (inspired by above instructions): http://nslog.com/2006/09/24/itunes_artwork_in_id3/ Someone else will have to offer up a Windows-specific script/automated alternative. The two best sources for album artwork on the net (bar none) are iTunes and RateYourMusic.com To Rip in Windows, use EAC or AudioGrabber. To Encode to MP3 use LAME. Do anything other than the above for MP3 and you're wasting your time. I use DBPowerAmp and like it very much. Beta 12 is stable and has lots of additional features that plug into AllMusic, etc. For any CDs that don't have the "correct" tabs I use MP3Tag (does all tags not just MP3) -- Paul_B Paul ~ Slimserver 6.5.1 on EPIA VIA EN15000 Mini-ITX running Windows 2003 R2. ...am I not right in thinking that the new version of Itunes doesnt update the tag info with the artwork - it just hold the artwork on the pc, so when you copy it off that PC, the artwork doesnt appear ...just tried it and it looks that way -- iangude iangude's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6750 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30715 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

There have been MANY discussions on this forum regarding this but I have never put in my 2 cents worth, so here it goes... I use Easy CD-DA Extractor (http://www.poikosoft.com/). I first rip my CDs to FLAC and then use the converter to convert the FLAC to MP3 for my Archos. In between those two processes I use Foobar 2000 to apply replay gain tags. Easy CD-DA will down load album covers and place them in the tags, but I do not use those imbedded tags. I also find that many CD's tags are not what I expect or need, so I use MP3tag to change/correct/spiff up. It's definitely a labor of love but worth your investment.
