Re: [slim] Slimserver Question

2011-03-06 Thread richpace

HI,
Thanks for the reply. I really don't know the model of my SB, but it's
one of the first or second generation. I've had it for years/ It won't
connect to the ATT gateway.

Look on the bottom of the SB. If it says Squeezebox it's an SB1. If it
says Squeezebox2 it's an SB2. If it's an SB1 and you're trying to
connect it wirelessly check how your new router is set up. SB1 only
supports wireless B and WEP encryption. Your new router could be in
G only mode, or using WPA encryption, or some other configuration
that's incompatible with SB1. If that's the situation you'll need
either to connect the SB1 via ethernet, or change the router settings.

Have a look:

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Hardware_comparison

maybe it is so old that it only supports WEP encryption not the never
WPA or WPA2 .

Btw WEP is not considered secure anymore

Re: [slim] Slimserver Question

Your SB player (which model?) will not connect to the new ATT router?
Or the player does connect to the ATT router but cannot see your SBS
computer?
Have you tried completely setting the player up again from scratch?

Can you at least connect the player to MySqueezebox.com and play
internet streams?
ATT may have different settings or connection restrictions on their
device, I'd call them.

[slim] Slimserver Question

2011-03-03 Thread richpace

Yes, I am still using on of the first generation slimservers. Never had
a problem, so I never updated. Now I have a problem. I just installed
ATT U-verse. The computer with all my music files is now connected
wireless to the ATT gateway. I used to have the computer connected
with an Ethernet cable to a linksys access point. Since the change I
am unable to connect to my new network, and even if I could I'm not
sure the slimserver will recognize the computer since it is part of the
network. If I am making any sense at all and you can help me, I'd sure
appreciate it.

[slim] slimserver question

2007-05-23 Thread PPNSteve

I'm wanting to stream over the internet and when I or another user
connects, nothing plays..

How do you set the server up to automagically play the selected
playlist and/or all songs on connect?

thanks

Re: [slim] slimserver question

2007-05-23 Thread peterw

You'd probably need to write some code to have Slimserver automatically
start playing a certain playlist when a user connects. You can probably
edit strings.txt and restart Slimserver to change the welcome message.

Why are you using Slimserver for this? Unless you take some extra
steps, Ability to Listen to /stream.mp3 == Ability to Control
Slimserver. For public streaming, something like Icecast is usually a
better choice.

I'm testing the ability to play my files from a dir and/or playlist on
the local server.. Icecast/shoutcast is not a viable setup withouit
major mods being made to it.. I was hoping, lacking any detailed
documentation here, that this server would do what i need it to do.

[slim] Slimserver Question re. device support

2005-12-27 Thread Jungle

Apologies if this is not the right forum for this question but I'm
trying to find out which other devices are supported by SlimServer.
Specifically, I'm looking at the Linksys WMA11B and hoping that this
can use Slimserver as they are ccurrently on sale in the UK at roughly
£30 a unit. I don't see these as a replacement for the Squeezeboxes - I
already have two units and expect to buy more in the near future - but I
like the idea of a really low cost unit which will do for casual
listening and will also stream photos.

My problem with the Linksys is that it seems only to work with Windows
and this house is strictly Mac only. As such, I need some form of
server software to stream music from my iTunes library to the WMA11B.

Any helpful advice gratefully received.
