Mine are connected to a computer and I use Squeezeplay to steam my FLAC library to them, but the convenience with a Touch would be fantastic. The A5s also have a power saver built in, which makes them super convenient. -- gdpeck gdpeck's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4686 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

My question is whether anyone who has one can comment on the sound quality. Can anyone offer any viable alternatives? I have two Audiosource AMP 100s. One for our kitchen/dining area and another for our outside patio/deck (the amp is hidden in the basement). I think the sound quality is very good for what it is, namely, a very inexpensive amp (less than US$100). To me it sounds reasonably well-balanced and clean. Sound-wise it is pretty invisible, which I think is a good thing, especially at this price point. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

linvale;646569 Wrote: Have you considered skipping an amp and connecting directly to powered speakers? I have been really impressed by a touch feeding a pair of Audioengine A2 and the simplicity is attractive. I am extremely happy with my Audioengine A5s - they have more power than is needed for the room they're in, but it's nice to have the potential to move them into a bigger room someday or move them outside on a nice day. It makes for a great minimalist setup with my SB3, which I'll someday swap out for a Touch. Related question - I am also looking for a simple amplifier to use with my SB receiver (in a different room than the A5s). Re: [slim] Which amp for a squeezebox?
- Scandyna The Ball 2.1 integrated amp - Micropod x 2 - SB3 - (not shown) A mini IR-blaster taken from a Logitech Harmony IR Extender System to shoot the amp in its blue eye from afar. The amp has a single analog input. Volume setting is digital. Controls via the remote, almost no settings on the amp itself. The mini-IR blaster thing (where Logitech really shines ?) works pretty well from a distance of 1 ft. It uses a 2.5 mm jack, you need a converter to hook it to the SB3 3.5mm port. Power usage when off or idle is not 0W but is really low, I don't remember the figure exactly. I think it sounds really good (surely does for an alarm clock), and is a bit pricey overall. +---+ |Filename: IMG_0151.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12714| +---+ -- epoch1970 Daily dose delivered by: 3 SB Classic, 1 SB Boom iPeng (iPhone + iPad) Squeezebox Server 7.6 (Debian 5.0) with plugins: MusicIP Server Power Control by Gordon Harris WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Find cover art by bpa BBC iPlayer, SwitchPlayer by Triode PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins Just Covers by Tom Kalmijn. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I think there is a good range of choices there. Recently I bought a 'Sumoh TinyAmp S60' (http://www.sumoh.com/). I like its minimalist approach - the Squeezebox gets power from the TinyAmp; the TinyAmp switches on automatically when there is a signal; the volume is controlled by the Squeezebox volume. -- carp Carsten carp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3584 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Which amp for a squeezebox?
I am not new to wireless media centers. I used a roku for about 5 years. But something broke down on it. Not sure if it is the just the power cord or the doodad itself. I was not able to find a replacement for the power cord, and I was in the process of moving and selling my various other audio equipment. So here I am with nothing but a hard drive full of MP3s and a subscription to Spotify. I'm fairly sure that I will buy the squeezebox touch, as it has an app for Spotify. The question is this: being in the somewhat pleasant situation of being able to replace my full audio set up, what amp and/or speakers should I get. The speakers are less of a question, it is more the amp. I am looking for something small, but relatively powerful. I am NOT an audiophile, but I don't mind laying down a few hundred bucks/dollars/euros for a good amp. I can hear differences in quality, but I'm not ready to lay down 1000 and more. I've seen a few small amps, for example the Marantz CR502 DAB CD Receiver HiFi System. This one is about the right price/quality range that I'm looking for. But here's the thing. I don't need a CD player. I don't need a radio. This is why I'm getting the squeezebox. All I want is a good amp to which looks nice and doesn't take up much space. I plan to connect the squeezebox and a pair of speakers and that's it. And I want an amp that is really made for music. I made the compromise of getting a home cinema system with good enough speakers for music last time. I don't regret that decision, but this time, I've gotten rid of my TV. All I want the amp for is music. I'm sure there must be others out there with the same setup, so any suggestions are welcome. Thanx for any opinions/suggestions Mark -- mchassy mchassy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48665 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89276 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
