[slim] sync question

2010-03-24 Thread pbg

Is it possible to use an auxiliary line in on one Squeezebox, and then
sync another Squeezebox to it?

For example, If I had an XM Radio line out into my Transporter, could I
then sync my Boom to the Transporter to hear the XM?

thanks,
pbg

No - Squeezeboxes only receive data and convert to audio via a DAC, they
have no way of encoding audio, and sending it via the LAN / WLAN ports.

Thanks Dav,
sounds like I need to figure out a way to first capture encode the
signal, and then send it.

Back to the drawing board!

thanks,

If you have a PC (Linux or Windows) running SBS with an audio line-in
port - then you can use the WaveInput plugin. The PC will encode the
audio from the line-in port (to which you have connected the XM radio).

Also, isn't there an XM plugin so that one can listen to XM on ones
Squeezeboxes? I would think the server would have to handle that stream
so it could then be sync'd. I don't have XM so I have never tried this
and obviously don't know if that's exactly how it would work. But its
worth looking at the plugin.

There is, and it works great. (Actually the XM internet stream is
better quality than their satellite feed)

The problem is, the package XM offers over the internet doesn't include
any of the sports feeds. The goal of this project is to hear the ball
game in the shop on the Boom.

Does SBS actually need to be on the box that the audio comes in on?
Currently my SBS is on a ReadyNas Pro (no sound)

If SBS is not running on the box with the line-in then you could use VLC
or Windows Media Encoder to create a HTTP audio stream (like internet
radio) which you can then stream through your player.

Have you checked for alternate streams from local radio (to where the
game is being played)?

I stream the Steelers games from a Pittsburgh station. Just checked
and tonight's Capitals game (v. Penguins) should be on Federal News
Radio1500 AM in DC, found them in the SBS listing for Washington, DC
stations.

very cool- That certainly is an option.

I thought about checking for the individual streams - I just sort of
like how with XM, all the baseball hockey games are there in a single,
tidy package.

sounds like there a few possibilities to make this work. I appreciate
everyone's input so far-
