[pfSense-discussion] suggestions for a decent hardware

2008-03-03 Thread Eugen Leitl

One of my mini-ITX systems in 1U Travla C147 is fried.
I keep looking for a nice replacement, but it's tough.
What I'd like to have is:

* 1U, preferrably fitting into a Travla C147, but other 1U alternatives welcome
* C7 CPU, 1.2 GHz or better (Isaiah not yet here); EDEN (fanless) if possible
* 1-2 GByte RAM
* 3 NICs, at least 2 of them Intel, or similiar
* affordable

So far the only system which fits the bill is a Jetway board
with a triple GBit Ethernet add-on board. However, these are
quite crappy Realtek (RTL81108?) NICs. Also, the Jetways seem
to be built quite cheaply, and e.g. can be picky with memory.
I would go for any low-power system, but I need good crypto
(IPsec/OpenVPN) support -- pfsense 1.2 claims massive improments
here.

What are you people using? Complete system suggestions are fine,
too, as long they ship to EU.

Yes. just the config is kept on the floppy.

This means that the RRD graphs don't save across reboots, right?
And packages can't be installed. (well that's sort of obvious...)

Correct on both accounts.
