I had a horrible feeling you were going to suggest installing windows. well, fortunately I bought a spare Dell disk caddy specifically for building a multi-boot utility disk for these sort of tasks. I'm going to have some spare R300 servers soon anyway so I can get set up on one of those first before I wreck our firewall :-) I've a few other last resort ideas to try before your yours, but thanks very much and if anything else occurs to anyone I'm willing to listen to anything even if it seems silly. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: discussion-unsubscr...@pfsense.com For additional commands, e-mail: discussion-h...@pfsense.com Commercial support available - https://portal.pfsense.org

Try a firmware upgrade or downgrade. The broadcom firmware has been a bit shaky. The easiest way to do it is to install for example windows 2008 server (30 day evaluation) and do a firmware upgrade through it. // Alexander Paul Mansfield skrev: comparing the two firewalls it does appear they are running identical hardware # sysctl -a | grep bge hw.bge.allow_asf: 0 dev.bge.0.%desc: Broadcom BCM5722 A0, ASIC rev. 0xa200 dev.bge.0.%driver: bge dev.bge.0.%location: slot=0 function=0 dev.bge.0.%pnpinfo: vendor=0x14e4 device=0x165a subvendor=0x1028 subdevice=0x020f class=0x02 dev.bge.0.%parent: pci1 dev.bge.1.%desc: Broadcom BCM5722 A0, ASIC rev. 0xa200 dev.bge.1.%driver: bge dev.bge.1.%location: slot=0 function=0 dev.bge.1.%pnpinfo: vendor=0x14e4 device=0x165a subvendor=0x1028 subdevice=0x020f class=0x02 dev.bge.1.%parent: pci2 dev.miibus.0.%parent: bge0 dev.miibus.1.%parent: bge1 # sysctl -a | grep bge hw.bge.allow_asf: 0 dev.bge.0.%desc: Broadcom BCM5722 A0, ASIC rev. 0xa200 dev.bge.0.%driver: bge dev.bge.0.%location: slot=0 function=0 dev.bge.0.%pnpinfo: vendor=0x14e4 device=0x165a subvendor=0x1028 subdevice=0x020f class=0x02 dev.bge.0.%parent: pci1 dev.bge.1.%desc: Broadcom BCM5722 A0, ASIC rev. 0xa200 dev.bge.1.%driver: bge dev.bge.1.%location: slot=0 function=0 dev.bge.1.%pnpinfo: vendor=0x14e4 device=0x165a subvendor=0x1028 subdevice=0x020f class=0x02 dev.bge.1.%parent: pci2 dev.miibus.0.%parent: bge0 dev.miibus.1.%parent: bge1 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: discussion-unsubscr...@pfsense.com For additional commands, e-mail: discussion-h...@pfsense.com Commercial support available - https://portal.pfsense.org __ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4827 (20100202) __ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com __ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4827 (20100202) __ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: discussion-unsubscr...@pfsense.com For additional commands, e-mail: discussion-h...@pfsense.com Commercial support available - https://portal.pfsense.org

I found a broadcom diagnostics utility - a bootable ISO, so I'll try that out - scroll right to the bottom of the page for the DOS utility in a bootable ISO http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php - To unsubscribe, e-mail: discussion-unsubscr...@pfsense.com For additional commands, e-mail: discussion-h...@pfsense.com Commercial support available - https://portal.pfsense.org

Try firmware upgrade on your broadcom network card. We had some issues where the broadcom cards would only recognize gigabit linkspeed but fail at 100mbit ports. // Alexander Paul Mansfield skrev: On 01/02/10 18:54, Chris Buechler wrote: Sure you're using CAT5e or better cables and not just CAT5?
