Re: Need help selecting a Django hosting provider

2007-10-24 Thread Zack

Yes. I've been happily using webfaction's svn app for a while. It's
great. We originally went to webfaction because we couldn't find any
competent rails hosting, but I'm very happy to see they are keen on
django as that's where we are heading.

Re: Need help selecting a Django hosting provider

We are very happy with webfaction (http://www.webfaction.com). Setting
up a django instance, database, etc. is a breeze. It also seems that
it would be pretty easy to scale with them (though we have not tried
this yet), at least up to medium+ traffic levels.

it worked all four times - and hosting provider depends on the size
and scale of the site you are building

small site, low memory - webfaction
medium site - or more than one site - VPS, I found tektonic.net good
big site or more than one big site - your own server - hetzner.de is
difficult to beat

I am from Czech republic and our application www.madatidal.cz is hosted
on Webfaction servers. You could try it...

Problem for now is only in responses (ping for any servers in my country
is about 30 ms, ping on WebFaction server is about 200 ms).

Hello,

I am also interested to host my site on webfaction. Therefore I asked the
webfaction-support for the server-location? This is the answer:

But your question is also insteresting for me, because I am from Austria and
webfaction is in United States.
Could that be a problem with the traffic, because my website-users are all

Thank for all the help so far. It sounds like Webfaction is the way

England. Since my site will mostly be targeting United States traffic
will that have an effect on the time it takes for people to browse my

Another vote for Webfaction - their interfaces makes it very easy to
set up django (and lots of other things too).

Another option to perhaps consider is to get a VDS and do your own
install.

I would also recommend WebFaction. If you really want to be your own admin,
SliceHost is good too -but you have to know how to run your own server.

I would absolutely recommend webfaction for django, its good service,
and most importantly efficient and easy set up.

I would also recommend using Webfaction. A couple of clicks and your
site is ready for your Django app.

I'm not sure if it's still on the list or not, but Dreamhost is
TERRIBLE for Django. I'd recommend webfaction.com; they set everything
up for you initially, and just generally handle lots of the sys admin
stuff so that you can focus on programming.
