You can edit the title while replying.

These links are useless for any boot program capable of using more than one
kernel, thus they are not created by default for more than a decade.
Debian's (and thus Devuan's) official precompiled kernel package update the
symlinks if they exist but AFAIK they don't create them anew -- the
debian-installer module does, though, so it's not surprising you still have
one.

This doesn't matter at all unless you use lilo, and even that might have
changed since.

[DNG] Shiny new kernel packages do not create /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links.

2016-09-21 Thread Edward Bartolo
Hi,

Sorry for the other mail but to correct the title I have to send another one.

I think this news interests Devuan. Newer shiny kernel packages do not
create the /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links. I tried the
liquorice kernel and yesterday compiled the vanilla kernel from
kernel.org. Both installations did not create these links.

2016-09-21 Thread Edward Bartolo
Hi,

Sorry for my mistake: it is the kernel package that creates the
/vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links. Therefore, I should have
written 'new kernel packages do not create these links.

[DNG] update-grub does not create /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links.

2016-09-21 Thread Edward Bartolo
Hi All,

I have just tried update-grub more than once to make sure what I
observed for the first time since I have been using GNU/Linux:
/vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links are no longer created.
