These links are useless for any boot program capable of using more than one kernel, thus they are not created by default for more than a decade. Debian's (and thus Devuan's) official precompiled kernel package update the symlinks if they exist but AFAIK they don't create them anew -- the debian-installer module does, though, so it's not surprising you still have one. [DNG] Shiny new kernel packages do not create /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links.
Hi, Sorry for the other mail but to correct the title I have to send another one. I think this news interests Devuan. Newer shiny kernel packages do not create the /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links. I tried the liquorice kernel and yesterday compiled the vanilla kernel from kernel.org. Both installations did not create these links. Edward -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. Re: [DNG] update-grub does not create /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links.
Hi, Sorry for my mistake: it is the kernel package that creates the /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links. Therefore, I should have written 'new kernel packages do not create these links. [DNG] update-grub does not create /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links.
Hi All, I have just tried update-grub more than once to make sure what I observed for the first time since I have been using GNU/Linux: /vmlinuz and /initrd.img symbolic links are no longer created.
