The only issue that I'm aware of is that the kernel modules wouldn't
build for you. Installing linux-headers-amd64 should have fixed that
for you. Is this not the case? Are you having other issues besides
that? Seeing what you're trying to do and the output you get would
help.

Eduardos problems is not English for sure. I replied twice, and gave

Ah, I thought merely about cross-country. You know, Norway always
claims to be best, but maybe other countries are competitive. But for
sprint skiing Sweden is best, even though a Norwegian jente won last
year :( Downhill, slalom, etc is another story :), what about

This reply to Edward seemed a bit harsh; it might be that he didn't cope with

Looking further to the *usb* files on my box shows:
(I had to go back to my reply to you to compare the lists, see above!!!)

dpkg -S /lib/udev/rules.d/*usb*
usbmuxd: /lib/udev/rules.d/39-usbmuxd.rules
usb-modeswitch-data: /lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules
eudev: /lib/udev/rules.d/73-usb-net-by-mac.rules
modemmanager: /lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-usb-device-blacklist.rules
modemmanager: /lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-usb-serial-adapters-greylist.rules

They are probably not related to you problems.

> /lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-usb-classes.hwdb

Same result then, both are from eudev.

[DNG] Installing & running eudev broke USB drives auto-listing in Thunar.

2017-12-01 Thread Edward Bartolo
These are the results. The first listing lists only two files while
the second lists all files.

edbarx@edbarx-pc3:~$ find /lib/udev/rules.d/ -name '*usb*'
/lib/udev/rules.d/39-usbmuxd.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/73-usb-net-by-mac.rules

edbarx@edbarx-pc3:~$ find /lib/udev/hwdb.d/ -name '*usb*'
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-usb-classes.hwdb
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-usb-vendor-model.hwdb

Plugging in a USB thumbdrive, a new device name sdb1 was listed
automatically under /dev. Using this with mount as root I could browse
the contents of the USB thumbdrive in a terminal using cd and ls.

I also cannot mount camera memory cards. Maybe this issue is due to
the fact that the hardware was not recognised by the kernel.

Hi Edward,

The eudev running daemon is udevd, not eudevd. So your observation is correct.

Regarding USB devices take a look at these files

find /lib/udev/rules.d/  -name '*usb*'
/lib/udev/rules.d/40-usb_modeswitch.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-usb-serial-adapters-greylist.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/39-usbmuxd.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/73-usb-net-by-mac.rules
/lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-usb-device-blacklist.rules

find /lib/udev/hwdb.d/ -name '*usb*'
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-usb-classes.hwdb
/lib/udev/hwdb.d/20-usb-vendor-model.hwdb

and compare with the ones in systemd-udev, version???

Maybe the devices are greylisted or blacklisted, see above.

This installation was done on ASCII.

Before this installation Thunar used to auto-list USB thumbdrives.
Running pstree shown udevd is running instead of eudevd although I do
not know whether eudev and udev use exactly the same name for the
daemon.

Any help will make a difference. Thanks goes to all who try to give me hints.
