[DNG] Plasyonlinux; is anyone successfully using it?

2018-07-07 Thread terryc
As per subject, is anyone sucessfully using PlayOnLinux?

My POl installation on Debian wheezy/stretch was stuffed due to
graphics related problems and I was only able to fix some basic stuff
prior to upgrading to Devuan-Ascii.

Now I'd like to get it working again and it would motivate if other
people can confirm that they have it working. I don't see any reason
for it not working, but worth checking.

Concur. ITOH, one could extend the hypothetical Dell laptop's two SATA
connectors to outside using eSATA cables, and connect those to an
md-driver RAID1 mirror pair of drives in external enclosures, preferably
each with a standalone power supply widget. (SATA doesn't carry power.)

Do not use the words "USB" and "disk" together, please -- in any context
that involves basic reliability, and, especially, not corrupting data.

CCed as I think the list is unhappy with my IP address.

You could get a cheap Dell laptop. Even the cheapest will be
completely overpowered as a file server.

As they have USB 3 you can use an adapter or external bay for your
drive.

They're extremely low-power, essentially have a UPS and have no need
for a fan. Don't forget an adapter for LAN if needed.

As Dell explicitly supports Ubuntu, you can likely get Devuan working
on one easily.

Boot once, use their system tools to prep a restore USB stick, then
install Devuan directly to it, overwriting everything. Use your
external dock as a separate drive independent from your system, so you
can swap it if you want to replace it and increase your drive capacity
in the future.

This sounds like exactly what I want.

Care to post the relevant scripts? I suspect many others want this too.

Or maybe we'll all start using variatios on your scripts. Please?
