Re: [DNG] Website changes

The contents on github are now slightly behind what we prepared for the website
as the links point to the jessie torrent (I will fix that in the next push
soon). Translations should be in good order aside from that.

With the keyboard setting US International with dead keys the
combination of 'e becomes é on my system. Which keyboard setting do you use?

[snip basic reality]

I know nothing of IceCat, nor am I trying to dismiss it. But... If you’re
looking for a browser that’s exceptionally good at displaying modern
web-sites and keeping capitalists ‘out of your business’ try the Tor Browser
Bundle (TBB), https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html .

If you’re still concerned with ads and privacy, but are sticking with one of
the ‘big 6,’ try the addon AdBlocker Ultimate (AU),
https://adblockultimate.net/ .

TBB with AU seems to be one of the better combinations to view websites as
intended while maintaining your privacy.

Best,
Michael

How do you switch of keyboard layout?

On the terminal you can use loadkeys XX (where XX is the selector of
the natioonal language, pt for Portugese), under X11 you can use
setxkbmap XX instead.

Hope it works.

[snip the specifics]

This demonstrates how good documentation in the right place can make
software an order of magnitude more user friendly, without dumbing down
the software. This is excellent.

I have a suggestion for the ISO section mid-page on
https://devuan.org/. I think it would be clearer, for the rushed
reader, if you made section "ISO Guide" into an ,and moved
that whole section up to the very top of current section "Get
Devuan". If you don't like having a subservient section header directly
below its parent section header, insert a sentence like "Before listing
the download sources, a word about the different ISO images available
and their uses.". I'm worried that, the way it is now, a rushed reader
might click on a mirror and never see the ISO descriptions.

I wish every software project were as serious about documentation as
Devuan is. This addition is excellent.

2018-12-25 Thread Carlos AT via Dng
Hi

I've been having issues to make my keyboard accent keys work properly.
I use the english language as default, but sometimes I make use of the
brazilian portuguese version.

If a word such as "é" is typed, the result is "´e". As if it didn't
recognize the dead keys as such.

I already tried selecting all available layouts without solving this.
Anybody has any idea on how to fix this?

[DNG] IceCat

2018-12-25 Thread Edward Bartolo via Dng
So, this is yet another limited browser that many modern web-sites
find repulsive to connect to. It is clear the problem is not the
browsers themselves, but economical and political. It is economical,
because a browser that is heavily biased towards privacy is
detrimental to advertising, especially targeted advertising. It is
political because the world as a whole with globalisation, is becoming
even more capitalistic. Websites that offer services completely for
free do not fit in a capitalistic world. Readers can try to argue this
is not 'always' the case, which need not be mentioned as it should be
obvious, that there are website owners who commit themselves to offer
a service for free, but this is far from being the norm, which matters
most.

So, privacy lovers are essentially a political minority that is trying
to dictate to the majority. For the majority money comes first, and
that, comes from targeted advertising.

Even people who code for open source projects do it for their own
gains: some do it for their CV, others do it for their research, still
others do it for their business, and maybe a tiny fraction for their
commitment to open source.
