All modern Devuan installer ISOs use the same "text mode" installer. It
lets you install a graphical desktop, though only the "desktop" ISO and
the complementary pool-only ISOs hold those packages for off-line
installation. Otherwise it requires network for that.

Did you try the mount.ntfs command? There does seem to be an issue with
using "mount -t ntfs" but the direct command should be fine.

Re: [DNG] Install Daedalus

2022-02-08 Thread Emanuel Loos via Dng
A server normally does not have a graphics card and is often headless
(no screen, mouse and keyboard) so a GUI would take away performance and
storage capacity for nothing. Therefore the server image only installs a
command line environment if I am correct. The installation assistant is
quite minimal since there is not much there yet to use. It is not a live
image that boots up a whole system and copies itself but kind of like a
OS that is only doing one task: Installing a customized Devuan system by
extracting and configuring packages from the collection of packages on
it. You did not really write much about why you need to use a NTFS file
system during installation so I can not really come up with solutions.
The same goes for graphics. However if you just need to get some data to
the installer consider formatting a USB stick or SD card in another file
system like FAT (old, limitations, works everywhere) or ext4 (Linux-only
[meaning the kernel, Devuan is a GNU/Linux distribution]). Consider
downloading packages you need and copying them to a stick so you can
install them on your server.

[DNG] Install Daedalus

2022-02-08 Thread Ismael L. Donis Garcia
When installing the devuan_daedalus_5.0.preview-20220207_amd64_server.iso file
do I get a graphical linux installation or only console?

I recently installed an older version and got a non-graphical installation as a
result, also it didn't allow me to mount an NTFS partition during the
installation, only using the installation disk since I don't have Internet
access on the PC where I am going to mount it

Just a +1 thanks. I've done several recent ASCII installs to then progressively
(slowly) upgrade because I thought someone had stopped producing images.

Oh!

Thanks - I didn't spot this linked from any of the "download" or "how to

Antony.

I did bookmark this link some time ago so I do not know if it is
anywhere linked on the site. Golinux maybe?

No idea who can fix that but it should be done.
Someone took to work to make an embedded version
and now users can not find it ?

[DNG] SOLVED: Menu of applications vanished from lxqt

Yes, that was the problem.

In file ~/.config/lxqt/panel.conf, the line
plugins=desktopswitch, quicklaunch, taskbar, tray, statusnotifier, mount,
volume, clock, showdesktop
should have been
plugins=mainmenu, desktopswitch, quicklaunch, taskbar, tray,
statusnotifier, mount, volume, clock, showdesktop

Discovered by comparing ~/.config/lxqt/panel.conf with
~guest/.config/lxqt/panel.conf

It was very useful having a guest account.

I wonder how this file got changed a few days ago.

I log into the guest account.
Everything is OK.
There is a menu of applications in lxqt.

So the problem isn't system-wide; there must be something in my personal setup.
Perhaps something wrong with a dotfile?

Whoops! Checked apt history. Did that security upgrade, do not seem to hav
installed the convertor.
locate does not find the converter, even after I updatedb.

I must have merely investigated what I would have to do.

And I cannot find a .desktop file for the converter, either.

In any case, the converter would have been installed using
gem install kramdown-ascidoc
so it wouldn't show up on the apt log even if I had installed it.

Interactive aptitude tells me that openbox is not installed.

So I must be using something else.

I'm going to use the guest account and see if the same happens there.
