actually, the current version of eudev in ascii (3.2.2-13) should not
require any manual intervention, at all...

Thanks, moving /etc/init.d/udev to another directory allowed me to
complete the installation of eudev. "dpkg-reconfigure eudev" completed
its task without errors.

auto.mirror.devuan.org is running the original amprolla and requires
about 20 hours to update the package list. That's why we have
amprolla3 now, and that's why we suggest to use either
pkgmaster.devuan.org or deb.devuan.org (or {CC}.deb.devuan.org, where
{CC} is your country-code, e.g., "fr" for France, "nl" for
Netherlands, "us" for USA, "gb" for the UK, "se" for Sweden, and so

Which mirror are you using? The package has been in the repo since a
couple of hours ago. The relevant versions are as follows:

  udev: 1:3.2.2+devuan2.11
  eudev: 3.2.2-13

They should be available from pkgmaster.devuan.org, deb.devuan.org,
{CC}.deb.devuan.org and packages.devuan.org (so basically any Devuan
mirror(s)).

Could you please try again and report?

not having had this problem myself, but following this list and
#devuan, I suppose, that you have some leftover udev -> eudev
initscript and/or symlinks in your inittab.

IIRC this is a known problem during updates that is about to be fixed 
before ASCII goes stable.

Please try to:
  1. remove the transitional udev package (if applicable)
  2. move the file /etc/init.d/udev out of the way (if present)
  3. reinstall (or rather configure) the eudev package.

Was upgrading to ACSII and all was going swimmingly until right near the
end (usual Friday then !)

Seems eudev is in a knot.

I think it probably needs removing and reinstalling, but that wants to
rip out all the kernels !!!

Any suggestions on getting out of this one without a reboot?
