Upgrading from ascii to beowulf was very straight forward for me.

sed -i 's/ascii/beowulf/' /etc/apt/sources.list

then apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

If it's not straight forward, please inbox me. I don't have much time to do 
anything just now but I'll eventually document the upgrade process and any 
quirks with it.

I am trying the power manager from hezeh.org, and I have problems:

It doesn't put the laptop into sleep mode automatically after 10 minutes
(or other user settings).
Laptop lid and direct invocation of the sleep command both work.

Do you have any hints?

No pin on policykit is needed any more on Beowulf. Please remove any
pin you might have on policykit and update to the latest policykit
available in beowulf.

no, the preferences file is not needed any more for policykit.
don't know about nvidia drivers, using mate with lightdm+elogind.
mate-power-manager is broken for me (no suspend, broken battery icon -
bug #240), so using repo hezeh.org ascii version - only one found to be
working so far.

What is the best course of action?

I use mate desktop and nvidia drivers and I have packages from backports as
well as other repos external to devuan that I can easily disable.
