Well, Lenovo stuff is normally straightforward. I have used the
following on the x250:

  $ cat /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-brightup

  event=video[ /]brightnessup
  action=/etc/acpi/lenovo-bright.sh up

  $ cat /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-brightdown

  event=video[ /]brightnessdown
  action=/etc/acpi/lenovo-bright.sh down

  $

The script /etc/acpi/lenovo-bright.sh is attached to this email and is
pretty straigthforward, apart from a bit of sugar aroud the essential
stuff.

I know. I used acpi event scripts on some of my notebooks. But on my new
Thinkpad X230 the brightness keys don't work out of the box. I don't
know what the problem is with this. With xfce-power-manager they work.
And I don't want another tool for every key to work. One tool should
handle all. ;-)

As a workaround I defined the brightness keys in openbox/rc.xml to
execute xbacklight, and handle lid close with acpi events as on my other
notebooks. But that's all not satisfactory. Linux is a continuous
construction area. :-(

I have suspend on lid close working on fluxbox. ACPI handles it. It's just a
matter of adding a few lines to a text configuration file.

The hardest part is finding the instructions on the internet and I forgot
exactly what lines to add where by the time I found a free moment to install on
a different laptop, this time with MATE.

Definitely not a bad idea to add it to the documentation.

In the meantime, you can just open a root terminal and type in "pm-suspend" to
put the laptop to sleep so it's a minor temporary nuisance.

I'll post to the list if I remember before anyone else does.

Could you share details please?

IMO that should go into Devuan builds, maybe even xfce4 upstream as an
option.

I think it may be that xfce4-power-manager is adapted to the notion that
the lid button is handled by systemd-logind. In any case, I made it work by
setting up an acpi event handler.

[DNG] No action on lid close with xfce4-power-manager

2017-04-01 Thread Joachim Fahrner
I have a simple openbox desktop and installed xfce4-power-manager. It
handles most events fine (battery, brightness) but there is no action on
lid close. The net is full of those reports, but most have to do with
systemd/logind, which we don't have on Devuan.

Any ideas what could be wrong in Devuan?

Btw: what are all these files under /etc/systemd/system directory? What
does a /etc/systemd on Devuan???
