I might have missed something, but if you are using only Devuan repos
you won't get updates of forked packages from debian. If a package is
forked by Devuan, you are guaranteed to always get the Devuan version
(if you use only devuan repos).

I must admit I have not read thre full thread though, so I might be
missing something.

[DNG] procps

2018-04-03 Thread Klaus Ethgen

Hi,

for version 2:3.3.12-3 of procps, Ivan J. did a fix in devuan to not
depend to libsystemd. Now, we got the updated version 2:3.3.12-4 from
debian and there is a new version 2:3.3.13-1 in queue. When updating the
system with 2:3.3.12-4 coming from devuan, it pull in all systemd
dependencies.

Could you please fix that again?

Regards
   Klaus

LOL! Actually, I'm reading this thread, and wondering whether I should
snort with laughter, or cry. I want to do a bit of both.

To clarify:
That's a package dependency. That's procps being built with systemd support.
It's not procps hard-depending on systemd.

For that to e fully effective, they'll have to corrupt musl as well.

Or it is going to be systemd/linux AND gnu/linux, going their separate ways.

That's how Systemd is going pretty fast to become SystemdOS. Next
step is to merge libc into libsystemd0. I think distros enforcing it
should assume this fact by putting the word "Systemd" in their name.

*yikes*, I missed this one, as I checked some of the other dependencies.

I bet there is a command to recursively print dependencies, well, yes:
debtree.

To me it seems that libsystemd0 for some developers is similar to libc and I
don't think that approbiate. I dislike deep dependencies from high-level
stuff like GNOME parts towards lowlevel stuff like systemd.

KDE/Plasma developers worked at modularizing KDE / Plasma and untangling
dependencies in it for years now. systemd developers and developers relying
on systemd functionality seem to do it the other way around creating a huge
monolithic block between kernel, lowlevel system software and highlevel
software.

But, well, okay, this then would be another package to fork.

I cannot confirm this:

merkaba:~> apt-cache show procps
Package: procps
Version: 2:3.3.10-2
Installed-Size: 647
Maintainer: Craig Small
Architecture: amd64
Provides: watch
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.15), libncurses5 (>= 5.5-5~), libncursesw5 (>=
5.6+20070908), libprocps4, libtinfo5, lsb-base (>= 3.0-10), initscripts
[…]

So it seems this is not a *direct* dependency. It may be that some of the
dependencies depend on libsystemd0.

So, we need to fork also procps.

Hi everyone,

I'm using unstable (Ceres), for quite some time now libprocps4 and thus
procps depend on libsystemd0. On stable (Jessie) there is libprocps3
which does not depend on it.
