What should I be looking for?

Just install jmtpfs.

Re: [DNG] mounting an android phone as usb storage

2016-04-30 Thread fuumind
lol! You never know! There are experiments being done on teleportation. ;)

This is kind of interesting! 'jmtpfs mnt' told me 'No mtp devices found.' which
led me to check out my phone a little more in detail. I found I could select
which mode I wanted it to use and I had been using USB mode all the time.
Choosing MTP mode and plugging into my laptop actually automounts it and
pcmanfm asks me if I want to open it in a new window. This is true even when
jmtpfs is not installed.

In summation: Connecting my phone using USB mode does not auto mount it but
connecting it to my laptop using MTP mode works even when jmtpfs is not
installed.

Re: [DNG] mounting an android phone as usb storage

2016-04-29 Thread Steven W. Scott
Good call there, Hendrik! I dont recall it working before, but the sdk I
had was ancient - grabbed the latest android SDK and it works great now,
best part is I didnt have to set up any udev rules! Only odd thing was I
had to uncheck and re-check the 'usb debugging' option in the phone
settings before it would ask to allow the computer to connect. After that
it was authorized and adb could connect.

I'll have to give heimdall another go as well. I've been wanting to root
this thing for years but couldn't get Odin or Heimdall to cooperate with it.

Definitely give adb in the andriod sdk a try Nate -->
developer.andriod.com/sdk/index.html (link's at the bottom)

Platform-tools will contain the adb executable after you run the update
command found in the readme.

Of course if all else fails, it is possible to access files o the phone

You will not see any /dev/sdX anywhere. With my samsung phone I just
plug it in and give the command:

enzo@kaa:~$ jmtpfs mnt
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
Device 0 (VID=04e8 and PID=6860) is a Samsung Galaxy models (MTP).
enzo@kaa:~$ cd mnt
enzo@kaa:~/mnt$ ls
Phone
enzo@kaa:~/mnt$

All your files are in the Phone/ directory.

is a wild-west with tens of thousands of different devices and every

This may or may not be relevant but . . . when I connect my Canon camera on
Devuan I have to mount it from the device column in Thunar. If your phone is
listed there, give it a try. Or try mounting it the old-fashioned way . . . ;)
