[dns-operations] DNS on Virtual Machines

2022-07-08 Thread Mehmet Akcin
hi there,

I am trying to contact engineers who are running DNS/Anycast on Virtual
Machines to ask a few questions regarding hypervisor processors they use,
type of hard disk they prefer, and any other details that are relevant to
performance.

If you are running DNS+Anycast on bare metal I am also interested in the
same questions (though I think for most memory is what matters).

Please feel free to contact me directly.

[dns-operations] off-topic - live interview / discussion about dns/infrastructure

2020-06-23 Thread Mehmet Akcin
hey there, sorry for cross-posting in few lists.

A few weeks ago I've started hosting a youtube/twitch/twitter live video
show (simultaneous stream) hosting key people who are involved in the
exec/operations/engineering of internet infrastructure companies either as
consumer or service providers.

my idea is to create a platform where questions/concerns can be asked
directly to executives/key decision-makers and hopefully get answers. Very
similar to Reddit AMA but with focus on
telecom/datacenter/infrastructure/DNS/etc.

For example, I will have execs from zayo, Windstream, aqua comms, packet
fabric this week as my guests where you will be able to ask
questions directly. There is also a 1-1 discussion with APNIC's Chief
Scientist Geoff Houston about internet growth during lockdowns, and more. I
am now working on adding more international speakers to give a global view
of internet infrastructure.

you can watch the shows live, ask questions, and be part of the
conversation from all these platforms.

example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEoZNDMDnww in few minutes Geoff
will be live here! do you have questions? join us!

twitter https://twitter.com/mhm7kcn

also available on twitch, and Facebook.

if you have a recommendation on speakers you want to see, ask questions,
you can contact me offlist.

I thought I would share this here, I am sorry if this is off-topic.

[dns-operations] Domain Registrar-lock

2014-11-24 Thread Mehmet Akcin
Hello,

this might be little off topic, apologies if it's.

which registrars provide registrar-lock enabled by default to improve
security, if any?

i have been trying to educate mysefl and understand why registrars don't
enable this by default and only document I was able to find was
https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/policy-transfers-2014-07-02-en which
I am not even sure if it's the right one.

any pros/cons you can think of this being enabled by default other than
obvious additional steps being required for domain transfers, and this
adding burden for registrars, etc.

ps: yes , looking at craigslist.org's incident, i am wondering why don't we
have this by default

[dns-operations] NANOG 58

2013-04-18 Thread Mehmet Akcin
::sorry for duplicates::

Greetings folks

Once again we will have DNS Track in NANOG.

There has been lots of recent DNS related discussions going on in many e-mail
lists and I am quite sure there will be many great DNS talks in NANOG 58 just
like in previous NANOGs.

DNS Track's goal is to bring together the audience who doesn't necessarily want
to know all the details of a topic but would like to spend 90 mins listening
quick updates from various DNS related subjects and get some crucial
information and updates.

If you are interested in talking/presenting in the DNS Track and/or want to
help me organize this Track in any way, please contact me off-list. Hopefully
we can inform those who do NOT spend much time dealing with DNS about some
topics they were not aware.

Once I know the details of the agenda such as time and date of the track,
topics that will be covered, i will share this with you.

 Hello everyone,

NANOG 55 will take place in Vancouver , Canada June 3-6 , 2012. I will send
more information about DNS Track timing and details of the track later.

I am sending this email to ask NANOG attendees to help us organize a better
track by letting us know what topics they want to see covered about DNS.

We are also inviting parties who are DNS Software providers, service
providers, experts, and researchers to join and present about what they think
is interesting. Please contact me directly if you want to briefly bring
something interesting about DNS to this Track's and their attendees
 attention.

Since the whole track will be 90mins and we want to allow as much as talks to
take a place it would be good idea to limit any specific talk to 15 mins and
keeping it really operational , brief and clear would be great idea.

as I said earlier as soon as track details are decided, I will send a second
e-mail to let the community know. thank you for your interest.
