No need to try to accommodate me, because I don't attend meetings even
if/when they are at a convenient time for me. Sorry.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for this.

Yes, as I recall from when I lived there Australian time zone
coordination is problematic.

It might help if folks can see a direct comparison, so I set up a time
zone table based on the next meeting date May 15 (New York time) here:
https://bit.ly/2VHXWl4 A direct link to time zone comparisons between
New York, Berlin, Brisbane, Rio de Janeiro and Dublin at timeanddate.com

I can be available for short periods any time of the day except between
10:00 (pm) and 06:00 (am)

I recall seeing a proposed solution on another LO project list to have
weekly meetings at different times on alternate weeks. Not sure this
would be a good compromise, but it is an option we could try if folks
wanted to.

Best Regards
Dave

[libreoffice-documentation] what is best meeting time?

2019-05-03 Thread Cathy Crumbley

Hi All,

Dave, it is  good to hear from you again.

Drew and I agreed on Wednesday that it would be great if Dave and Jean
could join the biweekly meetings. We are both in US eastern time (EDT)
and flexible about the meeting time. Olivier in Rio is one hour ahead of us.

My understanding is that Dave is 5 hours ahead of us in the UK and Jean
is 14 hours ahead of us in Queensland.

We could certainly meet earlier to accommodate Dave. So, the question is
how early we, in the Americas, could start and how late Jean would be
willing to stay up. If, for example, we started at 07:00 or 7:30 EDT
that would be 21:00 or 21:30 for Jean.  I am hardly a morning person but
would be willing to do what I can to include others. However, that may
be getting too late for Jean.

Also, it might be that whatever time we meet will preclude others from
joining us. In that case, we could think about alternating meeting times.

It may be that the time zone difference is too great but think it
worthwhile to at least see if we can work something out.

Jean? Olivier? Drew? Other there others on this mailing list who would
join if the meeting time were more convenient for them?

Cathy

Hi Carlisle,

Yes it is a good point and one that has been raised many times before.

We would all love to have fixed release dates for all of the 6 core
guides we attempt to produce, but this is unlikely to be possible any
time in the foreseeable future.

The facts are:

  * You cannot dictate deadlines to volunteer contributors donating
their valuable spare time to work on the guides.
  * At any one time there are, by my estimation, fewer than 4 people
involved in the documentation effort actively working on part of any
guide.
  * In addition to the guides the tiny group good folks who make up the
Documentation "/Team/" are also responsible for the software's
in-built/on-line help files, the documentation wiki, the on-line
FAQ's, How-To's and Tutorials.
  * As with all things in FOSS projects there is big demand and very
limited resources (contributors) to meet that demand and as yet
nobody has come up with a viable solution.

The GS guide for LO version 6 published in September 2018 was updated
from the GS guide for LO version 5.2 itself published in February 2017.
A target of 12 to 18 months for a updated release of the GS guide might
be considered achievable if we had at least double the number of active
contributors we currently have working exclusively on that guide.

While the GS guide is important, it is a long way short of the most
demanded/downloaded Calc Guide which we are currently concentrating our
limited resources upon.  The the last published and currently available
Calc Guide was for LO version 4.1 published in December 2013.

At first glance updating might appear to be a simple task, but until
someone has "/rolled up their sleeves/" and "/done the grunt work/" of
revising just one chapter they cannot fully appreciate the effort
required to produce a near accurate result.

Beat Regards

Dave

2019-05-03 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Drew,

I was waiting to receive the meeting minutes and was beginning to think
there was no meeting this week, so I went to the pad and it seems you
and Cathy attended.

While my present circumstances make it extremely difficult to join the
meeting in the early hours of the morning (my time zone), there are a
couple of things I would like to put forward for a team discussion next
meeting (15th. May I think).

One of those things is to have some kind of agreement on the
organisation of the NC directory organization, even if it's only to
agree on what constitutes Feedback and Draft ?:|

Great.

I updated the documentation pad on Wednesday, but I failed to update the
spreadsheet (bad on me).
I've got Chapter 5 from the feedback folder for review, and just about
finished, so far no issues, and I expect to have it up to the draft folder
by end of the day.
Chapter 0, Preface, has already been moved to draft after a review.

[libreoffice-documentation] Taken Calc Guide Chapter 4 For 1st. Review.

2019-05-03 Thread Dave Barton
At this time I do not have sufficient time to devote the necessary
periods of concentration required to accurately update any existing
chapters of the guides. Therefore I have taken Jean's revised chapter 4
of the Calc Guide for review. This is likely to take me some time
working in very short sessions and my expected return date 1st. June
given on the Guide Status spreadsheet reflects this.

Hi Dave,

I'll respond to your email since I didn't include the OP in my earlier
email and I just realized they may not be signed up to the ML yet.

As I said in the previous email the terms seem to make it clear the work
may be modified under either of the two licenses and the other license
dropped in the new work.

It's unclear why you feel a change is necessary. The standard copyright
notice used in all our guides reads:

This document is Copyright © 2018 by the LibreOffice Documentation Team.
Contributors are listed below. You may distribute it and/or modify it
under the terms of either the GNU General Public License
(http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html), version 3 or later, or the
Creative Commons Attribution License
(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), version 4.0 or later.

It might well be argued (and I would) that the GPL Licensing is
irrelevant in regard to documentation, but the notice used is our
accepted policy and I don't see and justifiable reason for changing it.

Sorry, was too brief there.

So, yes I would take that to mean that the GPL license could be dropped in
a modified work as long as the CC license was retained.

Again just my opinion.

My reading of that sentence is that a person is free to use either of those
two licenses.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] May I change the License within the Simple-Chinese version book (Getting Started Guide6.0) ?

2019-05-03 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hi,

you cannot delete the GPL3 license (or change a license, even if it is very
very similar), as the previous iterations (now parts) of the text were
published under those terms and conditions. Unless you get direct approval
from *all* the authors of those previous versions (published under those
two licenses), you cannot do that yourself.

[libreoffice-documentation] May I change the License within the Simple-Chinese version book (Getting Started Guide6.0) ?

2019-05-03 Thread 驿窗
Hi,

I'm translating the LibreOffice Getting Started Guide 6.0 from English to
Simple-Chinese, and I will finish the translation work and upload the
Simple-Chinese version book(Getting Started Guide 6.0) in this month.

Before upload, I want to change the License to CC-BY-SA 4.0 (Refer to the
bottom right corner of this
link:https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Main_Page)(and here CC-BY-SA4:
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ ) in the Simple-Chinese version
book, and, I will delete the GPL3 and CC-BY4.

Can I?

Thanks and best wishes,

Thanks for you reply~

Below is the content (Getting Started Guide 6.0 PDF book ) I have compiled

And, I don't think that the we need to modify the PDF Guide 6.0( or ODT Guide

Maybe we can adjust it when the next version(7.0) is released.
