Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Contributors' Guide

2020-07-31 Thread Jean Weber
Dan,
The "rule" about not ending a sentence with a preposition has always
been, in fact, a style choice - not a rule of grammar. AFAIK most
modern style guides do not support this "rule." (Same for several
other "rules" we were taught in school.)

I have checked the "cleaned" files and replaced the ones in the
Published folder for the book.
Thanks for the quick work, Martin.
And thanks to everyone who worked on this book.

[libreoffice-documentation] Re: Calc Guide v7.0

2020-07-31 Thread Steve (GMail)

I have finished updating Chapter 3, Charts and Graphs, and placed the
file in the Draft folder ready for first review.

As with earlier chapters, please do not waste time reviewing the front
matter or the template used for these chapters (other than adding your
name to the list of contributors of course!)

Regards,

Steve

Hi All,

I have started a detailed read through the chapters of the 6.4 Calc
Guide to identify the changes needed for 7.0.

The first two chapters (0 - Preface and 1 - Introduction) have been
updated and placed in the appropriate Draft folder within NextCloud.
Please could somebody find time to perform a first review of these
chapters?

Echoing Peter Schofield's comments in relation to the Impress Guide,
please do not waste time reviewing the front matter or the template
used for these chapters (other than adding your name to the list of
contributors of course!). I will sort out these aspect prior to
publication, once the 7.0 template is finalised.

Regards and thanks,

Steve Fanning

[libreoffice-documentation] Re[2]: CG7002-EnterEditFormatData - Review #1

2020-07-31 Thread Steve (GMail)

Hi Annie,

Just a quick clarification about the Calc Guide status tracking
spreadsheet. When you take a chapter for first review, just put your
initials in column G ("Rev1") and fill in column H ("Return date") when
you return the reviewed file to the Feedback folder. There's no need to
change any of the entries in earlier columns when you are carrying out
one of the reviews.

Not a problem, just a tip for future reference.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Annie,

No concerns that I am aware of! Thanks for your help.

Please don't worry that the chapter is not yet formatted in accordance
with a 7.0 template. I will sort that out later, once an agreed
template emerges.

Steve

Hi Steven and folks,

I will be checking out Chapter 2 of the Calc guide for review.

Please let me know if there’s any concerns.

Thanks!

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Contributors' Guide

This is going quicker than I thought. I have uploaded chapter 1 to the
feedback folder. Changes logged into the guide status.

I made one minor change concerning whether a sentence should end with a
preposition. In high school, this was a no-no. (OK, this was 60 years
ago.) What is the more modern thought about this?

Samatha: I liked your thoroughness for chapters 0 & 1.

I am planning to review the other chapters as I get time. I also want to

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: Writer Guide 6.4 chapters ready for "cleaning"

2020-07-31 Thread Dan Lewis
When I first began working on the present Base Guide, I was translating
the chapter from Base Handbuch (German). For that I needed to create
clean file before translating them. All 10 of the files after cleaning
were in fact bigger as you have discovered.

because of the different zipping algorithm (LO/python).

I placed the "cleaned" files in the Draft folder, in the
