Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Math Guide 7.0 upload to NextCloud
Hello Rafael I reviewed your updates and additions and I liked very much. I have uploaded the file with my initials appended (OH) so you can have a second look. I left some comments too, for your guidance nd judgement. Some changes were rejected, but the vast majority accepted. Track changes are not enabled by default, but previous are visible. Thanks you for your excellent contribution. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] CG7000 and CG7001 - Final review
Dave, Thank you very much for the clarification! When I saw the "Reviewed..." folder, I came up with a wrong impression about the files in the Published folder. Just moved those two files to the Published folder and updated the Status Guide with the new location as you suggested. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] CG7000 and CG7001 - Final review
If the document's final edit has been done and is ready for publishing I would suggest it is placed in the "Published" folder. This seems to be a better option than having questionably named folders scattered around NextCloud. The folder name is only a label, placing a document there does not actually publish or do anything else with the file. Feeding all the fully reviewed chapter documents into the "Published" folder allows the book's Coordinator/Publisher to use that folder for assembling them into the the final publication. S/He will already know when the guide is ready for publication. Keep in mind that some native language teams might want to start work on translations of the English chapters as they are completed, rather than have to wait until they are actually published on the wiki and website. Finding new documents in the "Published" folder is a clear indication that the chapter is ready for translation. BTW Thanks to all of you for your work editing and reviewing the chapters for is guide. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] CG7000 and CG7001 - Final review
Hello Kees, About the folder, I agree with you, it could look better in another place, I would suggest inside the Draft folder rather than one level up. Actually, for me, it doesn't really matter where the folder is, since, as far as I understood, it is a temporary storage place for pre-published files, but I can move it if this is for the best, not a problem. About the workflow, we are in the final steps for the Calc 7.0 Guide reviewing, so I would like to suggest to keep the previous workflow and adopt the new one on the upcoming 7.1 Calc Guide. I believe we will spend some precious time moving and renaming every file when we could use it to finish the book instead. Those are my opinion on the subjects, perhaps we can discuss a little further, and get to a final decision about them. [libreoffice-documentation] Math Guide 7.0 upload to NextCloud
Hi! I have just uploaded the updated version of the Math Guide into the Work in Progress folder. Because this is my first contribution, feel free to point out anything that needs to be revised further. I used the "Track Changes" commando throughout my work, but I disabled the "Show Changes" button. If anyone wishes to see the changes, remember to enable the "Show Changes" button. Hi Olivier! I also opened under Okular in Kubuntu 20.04 and had no issues except a > delay in rendering the page. > You are right. The files do open in Okular. The thing is that they take about 15 seconds to finish loading and in the meantime the pages are shown as empty pages. And I had not waited enough to see them open. Just as a tip, for those in Linux it is possible to use the command-line tool *pdftoppm* to export the Covers PDF file into high-resolution PNGs. pdftoppm -png -rx 300 -ry 300 Guid_Covers.pdf guide_covers Cheers Rafael On Mon, Oct 12, 2020 at 10:17 AM Olivier Hallot < olivier.hal...@libreoffice.org> wrote: > Hi Rafael > > Thanks for your tests. > > Em 12/10/2020 09:55, Rafael Lima escreveu: > > Hi! > > > > I am using Linux and I had a similar problem as reported by Jean.If I > open > > the PDF file using Okular, all pages are blank. The SVG's were inserted as (vector) image in the ODT file then exported to PDF with "lossless compression" and 300 DPI resolution, so it became a large PDF file (1.8MB). That may explain "slowness" and it may also be putting a burden on low memory machines and produce artifacts on screen. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Guide Covers for 7.0
Hi! I am using Linux and I had a similar problem as reported by Jean.If I open the PDF file using Okular, all pages are blank. However, if I open the PDF with Firefox's PDF viewer, all is fine and the images load really fast. Also, if I open the cover files in ODT format they turn out to be too heavy and it is very hard to scroll down the document and make any editing. As discussed in our last meeting, this is because the image in the ODT file is in SVG format. What I did was open the SVG files using Inkscape and export as a 300 dpi PNG file. Then I inserted them as PNG images into the ODT files. Now they're lighter to load and navigate. I did not realize that, but it does make sense. Normally, I limit the styles I see to what is in the list "Applied styles". Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Guide Covers for 7.0
Olivier, When I open the GS7 cover PDF within NextCloud, it looks correct, but when I download the file to my Mac and open it in Preview (the most common way Mac users open PDFs, AFAIK), most of the contents are not visible. I have never seen this happen before! It does open, but very slowly, in Adobe Reader on my Mac and in Adobe Reader on Windows 10, but on Win10 Adobe Reader stopped working while I was trying to scroll down to the back cover. I have not checked this PDF on any Linux distro. I have not tried any of the other cover PDFs. They can, however, be hidden and perhaps they should be.
